Exploring the Depths of Marriage

Hello, Greetings to you all. I hope you’re having a good day. The topic for this edition of this week’s featured contest is a very interesting one. I’ve interacted with a lot of people and I have come to understand how they view things from their own perspective.

Today we are talking about marriage. This isn’t marriage advice please cos I’m not married.😅 I’m just going to talk about what I have seen and my thoughts.

What do you think about marriage?

Personally, I think marriage is a life long commitment. Marriage isn’t just like the boy girl relationship we have in our teens and playing games and all. Marriage is a big deal and no one is supposed to take it lightly. I get scared what I think about marriage. Like what if I marry the wrong person? What if I later come to realize in my marriage that I wasn’t actually ready? these and many more go through my mind when I have thoughts of marriage.

With all these thoughts surrounding marriage, we see our friends and family get married every weekend. I thought we all agreed marriage was scary so what happened?😂 That is when you realize that even with all the scary stuff we know happens in some marriages people still get married because of love and trust. My guess is that anyone getting married knows fully that his or her partner is worth getting married to and they know that they are going to be treated right. They’re going to have someone to walk through the rest of their lives with them through thick or thin. They’re also going to have someone by them at their lowest and they’re going to have a best friend and a partner in that person.

Well, others also get married for their own reasons. I’ve heard of stories about people marrying for fame, wealth or any other thing. This shows that everyone has their own reason and meaning of marriage.

What has marriage taught me?

As I stated earlier, I’m not married but I have lived with my parents and I have seen how they live. I have also seen most of my married family members and friends and I am very happy that they are happily married.

Let me talk about my parents. My parents have been married for 20 plus years and everyday that passes by brings a new memory to them. Marriage isn’t a bed of roses but sometimes it is when you’re married to the right one. Not everyday is a good one, some days are very bad while some are very good but they try very much to make everyday a good one because whatever goes on in their marriage affects their kids in one way or the other.

I have come to learn from my parents that marriage is about patience. As a married person you need to exercise some level of patience with your partner and even your kids. No matter how you love someone, you wouldn’t always agree with what they think because everyone is entitled to their own opinion and both of you are from different backgrounds. This is why it is necessary to be patient in order to build a happy home.

Marriage is also about compromise and communication. Imagine getting married to someone who is not able to communicate how they feel with you? They don’t share anything with you and they don’t even make time for you to listen to your problems. This isn’t marriage. Have you ever wondered why you see most couples or old people sitting outside on their compound at night just to talk? That’s like their bonding time. With the way the world is busy, the little time you have you should try to fix your partner in there somehow because a marriage without communication is broken.

Above all, marriage is about love. Aside all other reasons why people get married we all know that the main reason is love. Marriage should be about love because it’s love that brought you two together as a couple.

Do you feel like it's worth all the trouble?

From my perspective, I think marriage is worth the trouble if it’s with the right person. Even life comes with risks and so does marriage. Marriage teaches us new things and also helps us to understand stuff from other’s perspective. We single people do not have much to worry about cos we are alone but with married couples, you always have to factor in your partner in all you do. This in-turn aids us to understand ourselves and others better. Marriage even serves as an avenue to develop oneself in all ways possible. So, marriage is worth the trouble because marriage is a different level of school.😅

Guys, this isn’t meant to dissuade you from getting married but rather, this should serve as an encouragement for you to put away your fears and give marriage a shot when you are ready and have found the right person. God bless every marriage out there.
