Morality: Born, Taught, or Chosen?

As individuals, we are unique in our own little ways. We all have different families, different upbringing and different experiences all together. Life isn’t the same for us all. Some of us had it easy growing up and still easy as we are old. Others have never had it easy from the word go and then there’s those whose story change along the line.

Life can put you in some pretty difficult places you never imagined you will be. Sometimes we see people do things and we judge them. We even go as far as saying we will never do that if it were us but truth be told, some of us will do worse if we were in those situations. One thing about life is to never judge someone for a situation you have never been in. If it were you, you probably would have done that same thing you were judging or worse.

We have all been in difficult situations before but every experience is different. Someone difficult situation is someone’s normal day experience and someone’s normal day will send someone spiraling. Life can happen to anyone at all but why makes the difference in the long term is how you react to the situation . I’ve been in difficult situations which I could have used as an excuse to do anything I wanted but I didn’t. I sat down and thought things through and I knew what the right thing to do was. There are always times we are being pushed to do the wrong things but discipline and accountability pushes some of us to do the right thing. We all love the feeling of doing whatever we what, but we must also remember that we will be accountable for all our actions and that pushes us to do the right thing at all times.

Everyone of us has a mind of his own. As adults, we expect that we all do the right thing and take the right decision no matter what. But some of us seem to not have a conscience. The concept of freedom is different for everyone. Someone’s meaning of freedom is going and ruining their lives while another person meaning of freedom is to go out there and make a difference as much as they can.

Personally, I have values which I uphold and live by. To some extent, my upbringing contributes to that but mostly, my conscience and who I am as an individual is the reason for that. I don’t just do anything I want without thinking of how it affects others around me. I always want to do and stand for what is right no matter what. Even when things get hard, I stand for the truth because it is the truth alone that will set you free. I know people who will lie their way out of everything and keep on lying just to hide the initial lie. We can’t keep living like this as individuals. We need to do better even when no one is looking. Life is easier when we do and stand by what is right.

Our upbringing has a great influence on our moral values. What seems right to you might seems wrong to someone else and this has an impact on our moral threshold.

You're right about that, ma'am.
Life can indeed put us in certain situations at times, and we feel we can do better than those life is testing at that moment.
And I love how you're living your life, very few people think that way.
Thanks for doing and choosing what's right.

Thanks for sharing.

Wr live differently and from different backgrounds. So, we have different kinds of behaviors which could be positive or negative.

The best is to act normal towards doing the right thing.

Adulthood taught me to never judge people's action, because life can put you in difficult situations that will leave you with no other choice . As you said, we have a mind of our our own as adults and I believe we should always act with conscience, our morality is defined most times by the things we do and decisions we take when noone is watching.
