My Travel Stories:Packing, Trips,and More!

I’m that person who will have to travel at 3:00pm on Saturday and I would start packing my stuff at 2:30pm that same day. I totally don’t know how I developed this habit but it is what it is.

I spent most of my life in the city and I never had the opportunity to go on long journeys aside school excursions. The first time I went on long trip was when I was admitted into the university. I had to travel for almost 24 hours just to get to campus and it was really a new thing to me. Words can’t explain the kind of motion sickness I had that day. I couldn’t eat or drink anything so all I did was sleep. With time I got used to travelling for several hours and it has become a part of my life now.

My first time packing for a long journey was really funny. I didn’t know what to pack because everything was important to me. If I could, I would have just carried my whole room with me. At the end of the packing, I couldn’t close my bags so my parents had to pour everything out and repack for me and the funny part was that they packed everything back and there was more space in the bags. I was like ‘ wow, I guess I’m new to this’. Now, I’m a pro at packing and I can pack my whole room in one bag and I wouldn’t even sweat it.😅

As a lady, I have so many stuff which I can’t go without and if I travel without them I wouldn’t just be okay. For instance, I always make sure to carry my pack of tissues, my own towel, blanket, extra clothes which I wouldn’t even wear at the end of the day and my personal toiletries. There are some things I just don’t feel okay sharing with others especially when it comes to hotel stuff like towels. I’m a very different person so I travel with all my essentials stuff to prevent troubles.

Since going to the university, I’ve travelled so much both local and international and I would say I prefer long distance journeys to short ones because I get to sleep and try new airplane food from different airlines.😂 That way , I get to rate them so on this note I would like to state that I prefer KLM meals to Ethiopian airlines. Personally, long distance trips give me time to think and also clear my head. During such trips, you are most likely to not have internet connectivity which means no phone related stuff aside music. You might be even lucky to meet really amazing people on such trips and you get to have great discussions with them.

Before I forget, most of these long distance trips come with some little episodes of drama and you wouldn’t want to miss that. Once, I was traveling from campus to the house and the journey was about 20 hours long. Can you imagine someone had the audacity to pee in the poly bag in the bus and leave it under his seat when he could just ask the driver to stop for him to ease himself. Some hours into the journey the bus started smelling really funny and everyone was complaining. We had two drivers so the one came around trying to find the source of the bad smell only for him to find urine tied in a poly bag. You should see how everyone in the bus stated raining insults on this anonymous person. It was a really funny experience and I’m sure the one who did that learnt his lessons from the amount of insults rained on him that day.😂

To conclude, I prefer long distance journeys to short trips and with packing, I wish to pack light but well, what can a woman do.

You just made me recall the times my dad used to help me pack for trips. Man was so good, he could fit a whole wardrobe into a backpack. I dont know how he does that. I've tried to imitate but still don't get it.

The person that peed in the nylon has mind. Cause, just how!?😂
