When Trust Becomes a Trap

You will all agree with that over the years a lot has changed in our world today and our lives to some extent have gotten easier and better. Hell, our lives have been bettered 5 folds if not ten in the past ten years. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t think the world will advance this fast when I was younger.

Thankfully, humans have been able to use the knowledge and intelligence given to them by God to make their lives better. Talk about how much house hold chores gave been made easier. My African mom who said she didn’t know how I will manage when I marry should see the kind of technology available to me today. She even makes use of these technology in her marriage home so you can just imagine.

As much as technology has been good to us, just as everything has its advantages and disadvantages, technology also has its own. I bet most of us have had our fair share of disadvantages of technology. Most people are affected the most when it comes to the aspect of social. I bet you’ve heard of stories where people got scammed huge amounts of monies by fraudsters claiming to be who they are not.

I have had my fair share of social media scam even though I always told myself I wouldn’t fall far it. A few years ago when the world was just with Covid 19, we all had to go into lockdown. We were home spending time with our families while keeping safe and healthy. During this period, so many people had at adjust to social media just to make some money.

Business owners moved their entire business online and invested so much in marketing. Let’s not forget that fraudsters also invested a lot into technology and ways to defraud us. My story started when I needed to purchase some clothes but I couldn’t go to town because no vendors were even around if I went. I resorted to going through business pages on instagram just to get what I wanted.

I made sure to go to all the legit pages to buy what I wanted because anyone could look legit but be a scam. Lo and behold, I found this ladies page who had exactly what I wanted. She had a good following and great reviews so I decided to buy from her. I texted her, made my order and made payment while I waited for my package to be delivered. Guys, we are in October 2026 and legend has it that my order is still on the way.

I got scammed in broad daylight and I didn’t even see it coming . My mom and sister have also had their accounts hacked and their monies taken away without even their knowledge. Online scam has become a thing of the day and it’s one thing I wouldn’t wish on anyone because I have experienced it and know first hand how it feels. Now, I believe everyone is extra careful when it comes to their dealings on social media especially when it has to do with buying and selling.

The more our world advance with technology, the more ways and means for these scammers are developed. We cannot stop the advancement of tech, we just have to be extra careful.
