Favourite underrated Tv series.
This is a great topic of discussion.
So many tv shows that you could choose from.
I've watched a lot of different series over the years but a lot of them would have come highly rated. This poses a quesition in itself.
What counts as underrated?
Longevity.
Rotten tomatoes.
Critics.
Money earned.
It's easy to say that shows like Game of Thrones were highly rated as they hit all of those targets but what about Buffy the Vampire slayer. It was long running and successful but wouldn't have won much in the way of awards for it's acting. Is it under rated or as a cult hit rated just right?
So many choices but for this contest the one that sprang to mind straight away was......
Firefly.
Firefly is an American space Western drama television series, created by writer and director Joss Whedon, Who also created Buffy coincidently enough. I love those shows that are a bit sci-fi or fantasy and he had some of the best ones. There was one channel back when i was young that only had sci-fi shows 24/7 and had some great stuff to binge on. Well before i had a box with everything included and you watched whatever was in front of you.
The show itself is brilliant. Low budget, eccentric and poorly shot it just makes the cast and script even better.
The series is set in the year 2517, after the arrival of humans in a new star system, and follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a "Firefly-class" spaceship. The ensemble cast portrays the nine characters who live on Serenity. Whedon pitched the show as "nine people looking into the blackness of space and seeing nine different things." Ref: Wikipedia:
It had a big name actor in Nathan Fillion to lead the cast as their dynamic and questionable captain. He has a dark past form the wars and carries that into a new life on the fringes of society. It's been a few years since i watched it and unfortunately only ran for one series which is definitely not enough for all of the fans.
The show might be set in the future but all of the personalities and problems remain the same as the ones that we face today.
Love, loss, anger, politics, law, choices, friendship. Time passes but nothing changes.
The script itself is so well written for any fans on this genre.
It's easy to watch, fast paced, funny, dirty, silly and full of action.
Sometimes a large budget ruins good tv shows.
They get too reliant on big stunts and money to bring in the viewers where as small shows on low budgets have to do a lot better. This is one of those cases.
Despite the relatively short life span of the series, it received strong sales when it was released on DVD and has large fan support campaigns.
TV Guide ranked the series at No. 5 on their 2013 list of 60 shows that were "Cancelled Too Soon".
There was a movie produced to wrap up a lot of unfinished business but it is one that could have gone a lot further and has a large cult following for such a short series.
It's one that I would love to see make a few more series and therefore it was underrated or they would not have cancelled it so early in it's life.

They are reckless and should have shown the proper media what they had before taking me hostage for 5 years. I know there are many in prison that dont deserve to be there because of this. Its a terrorist act on American soil while some say its not real or Im a mental case. Many know its real. This is an ignored detrimental to humanity domestic and foreign threat. Ask informed soldiers in the American military what their oath is and tell them about the day you asked me why. Nobody has I guess. Maybe someone told ill informed soldiers they cant protect America from military leaders in control with ill intent. How do we protect locked up soldiers from telling the truth?
I would definitely vote for firefly also.. :) I would also say True Blood and Heroes were two of the ones I watched the most.

you right is hard to choose. FireFly is one sister favorite. if are talking about TV shows from other places beside usa. Torchwod is top on list. got my husband to watch it again with me. As for Buffy.YES! I missed the first season. but uncle had tape it all . Watch the rest and the Channel it was on the day it was on. I like shows kinds of dark but not anything that could be reals

I think Firefly had to be top of the list. It just so we'll written and good casts. It not over the top, good storyline !
