Establishing a sound library on BlockTunes/Hive

(Edited)

I have been chatting with @groove-logic both on Hive and Discord about the possibility of establishing a library of sounds here on the chain. Such sounds could be anything that you'd like to use in your own productions, which means they'd be released on a creative commons basis, for podcasts, videos and music productions of various kinds. In other words a sample library comprising of audio loops and one shot sounds. Everyone on the platform being welcome to participate.

The idea dawned on me when I was reading the post on how to use NFT.storage to upload audio to share in posts or add to the Blocktunes NFT library, so I am going to experiment with this in the coming days by adding some of my own creations.

I mostly use the iPad these days for creating synth loops which is both fun and very productive, I'll write some posts and explain my process along the way and add to the library in order to kickstart the project. If you would like to take part, let me know.

I shall leavr it at that for now, will post later, just interested to know people's thoughts on this before I commit time to it :-)

Ooh, that sounds interesting!
So something to be used for travel videos etc? That would be brilliant!
The idea being that they're royalty free, anybody can add and use?
That would be cool!

Yes they could be used in vlogs and that kind of thing. Contributors would earn through the platform anyway, same as they usually do but the sounds/loops/fx/tracks are Royalty free, so long as of course the original creator is credited. I am going to see what I can achieve through Blocktunes first.

Initially I am concentrating on shorter drum and synth loops, arpeggios and short sequences. We could add to that piano, guitar and other accoustic recordings. Field recordings from the natural, urban and world beyond would also fit the bill.

Massive scope - whether this would work with BTunes or need a platform of it's own, that's all much further down the line.... let's start off with some baby steps.

Baby steps it is! Sounds brilliant!
And, yes, putting the source is a must I should think.

I have just headed over there to log in; so this is where I can store mp3 and such like like in Soundcloud, only now on the blockchain?

There’s an article pinned to the home page on how to use nft storage to upload files and then share them in posts. There is a small issue with the presentation as you’d expect to see a player on the screen, similar to SoundCloud but this doesn’t work at the moment. Instead a link can be added and the content will play in a separate tab.

I’m currently experimenting and @groove-logic is the best person to ask.

I’m going to call this, The Hive Sound Library unless a more imaginative name is suggested?!

I think this is a great use of the tech!

The idea came to me when @groove-logic wrote an article on block tunes about NFT Storage which made me realise that rather than embedding soundcloud links in posts, I could use a blockchain related technology to achieve this, IPFS. Being a sound designer amongst many other things, I thought it would be a good way to curate sounds. Thanks for the follow!
