Flashback Friday - That Time I Tried Synthpop!

Eccentric Male Alien

I never thought I'd dip my toes in to synthpop but earlier this year in April, I found myself trying out a new genre and winded up working with the vocal talent of Winkandwoo with a Pet Shop Boys/David Bowie inspired track called Eccentric Male Alien! This was released on the Electronic Alliance Records compilation called "Future Sounds Anthology Vol. 2"

When the release first came out, the comments from various legends who tuned in to the track making references to the big names mentioned above and myself and wink were beside ourselves! I was trying to remember the melodies I heard previously on "Pick of the Pops" on BBC Radio 2 (yeah, I had that on in the background for some reason one weekend) and felt inspired by Frankie Goes To Hollywood's track Rage Hard!

Somehow, I ended up with this instrumental that was nothing like Rage Hard but a bit like a weird combination of West End Girls from Pet Shop Boys and the theme tune to the Krypton Factor, a TV show that was on in the 1980s-1990s! I then asked Wink if he'd like to lay down some epic vocals as I felt it would be right up his street, then he really took the track to the next level and gave our little Eccentric Male Alien a real personality!

Either way, I think it turned out really well and still smiling about it today! The response on his page on the track is insane, never seen a comments section like it filled to the brim! So I have now shared it on mine as, for some reason, I never posted it until now so hope you enjoy this week's Flashback Friday!
