Imagine that you were given a map of desires, a kind of game that you must follow box by box, with patience, along the way you will have to do things you never thought of doing again and put yourself in vulnerable situations to open your heart again and see that life is more beautiful than you had ever thought.
Synopsis.
In this story we will meet Grace Peterson, a 22 year old girl who was born to save her sister. Yes, you read that right.
Grace loves her sister Lucy, and also her parents, however, she has always felt invisible and like a strange person in front of others, so she doesn't have many friends and has never left Nebraska; her older sister was born with a disease and since she can remember her purpose has been to save her by donating her stem cells, however, Lucy dies after many years fighting with her own body... Grace, without dreams, yearnings and without having been able to "save her sister", felt terribly out of place in the world, and takes refuge in her monotony and sporadic relationships.
But then comes into her hands The Map of Longings, a kind of game designed by Lucy before she died, in which she will have to follow box by box with another character: Will Tucker, a boy she had never seen or heard of before (but who apparently was a good friend of her sister), who will be in charge of guiding Grace in the game and accompanying her every step of the way, so not only will they fulfill Lucy's last wishes for her sister, but these two boys will create complicity and an unexpected affection for each other will emerge.
My opinion
I had said I was going to spend time on books in other genres but I guess one always goes back to the place where one was happy and lo and behold, haha. This is the first book I've liked in weeks and with which I'm back in the mood for reading in the spare moments I have in the day, while it's within my comfort zone of romance books, what really made me continue reading it was the curiosity about what would happen after Lucy Peterson died. You know, I also love those stories of children suffering from illnesses and how their family does everything to save them and have them have a relatively normal life, for example "Wonder", "Anne's Choice" and "Miracles from Heaven", I like to see the family dynamics in these types of stories and what happens once the main character passes away (and yes, in all those types of stories I end up crying).
Grace Peterson's personality is curious and interesting, I think she is one of the most unique and intelligent characters I have come to read, she is obsessed with words that almost no one uses like "asymptote" and knows a lot about art, history and books; for her things are black and white, she likes to guess the color of people's energy, she hates endings and gets bored easily. In my perception, Grace has a lot of potential to exploit, a girl with such a unique personality I can imagine her eating the world, so it was very frustrating for me to see how little confidence she had in herself, on one hand I understand that the mourning for her sister put everything on pause, but even before that she also didn't have a good perception of herself and what she wanted to do with her life.
In this book we follow Grace's everyday life, her deteriorating relationship with her parents (who also mourn Lucy's death in their own way), the love and admiration she has for her grandfather, and the empty friendships she still maintains with people she graduated with years ago. Some of the scenarios are a bit boring, but I felt I could find something special as I read on, so I didn't stop and I wasn't wrong: her meeting with Will Tucker. Let's see, the friendship between these two characters was not immediate, if you read it, at first you may think they don't get along, but Will is left in charge of guiding and taking Grace to the places stipulated in the map of longings, so their friendship starts with small conversations along the way, and a kind of complicity arises when they realize they are not as different as they thought: Will also feels lost, different reasons led him to move to Nebraska and put his whole life on pause.
The longing map is a great tool for Grace to discover who she was, reinforce friendships she considered lost and find motivation for life in general. Healing a wound is not easy, it is a process that can take many months or years and is not linear, but Grace is aware of that and accepts it, as well as recognizes that since this game came into her hands, she is a different woman, even though she still does not have a stable job and still lives with her parents, her inner world is different and that is a great advance.
This is the first time I read a book by Alice Kellen and I'm curious to read her other stories, if they feature character development like this book, I might like it too. I'm glad I read this book, as well as I hope you enjoyed this review.

En esta historia conoceremos a Grace Peterson, una chica de 22 años que nació para salvar a su hermana. Sí, leyeron bien.
Grace ama a su hermana Lucy, y también a sus padres, sin embargo, siempre se ha sentido invisible y como una persona rara frente a otros, así que no tiene muchos amigos y nunca ha salido de Nebraska; su hermana mayor nació con una enfermedad y desde que tiene uso de razón su propósito ha sido salvarla donando sus células madre, sin embargo, Lucy muere después de muchos años combatiendo con su propio cuerpo... Mi opinión.
Había dicho que iba a dedicarle tiempo a libros de otros géneros pero supongo que uno siempre vuelve al lugar donde fue feliz y heme aquí, jaja. Este es el primer libro que me ha gustado en semanas y con el que he vuelto a sentirme animada por leer en los momentos que tengo libre en el día, si bien está dentro de mi zona de confort de libros románticos, lo que realmente hizo que continuara leyéndolo fue la curiosidad sobre qué pasaría después que Lucy Peterson muriera. Saben, también adoro esas historias de niños que sufren enfermedades y como su familia hace de todo por salvarlos y que tengan una vida relativamente normal, por ejemplo "Wonder", "La decisión de Anne" y "Milagros del Cielo", me gusta ver la dinámica familiar en este tipo de historias y lo que pasa una vez el personaje principal fallece (y sí, en todas ese tipo de historias termino llorando).
La personalidad de Grace Peterson es curiosa e interesante, creo que es uno de los personajes más singulares e inteligentes que he llegado a leer, le obsesionan las palabras que casi nadie usa como "asíntota" y sabe mucho de arte, historia y libros; para ella las cosas son blancas o negras, le gusta adivinar el color de la energía de las personas, odia los finales y se aburre con facilidad. En mi percepción, Grace tiene mucho potencial por explotar, una chica con una personalidad tan singular puedo imaginarla comiéndose el mundo, así que fue muy frustrante para mi ver la poca confianza que tenía en sí misma, por un lado entiendo que el luto por su hermana hizo que todo se pusiera en pausa, pero incluso antes de eso tampoco tenía una buena percepción de sí misma y lo que quería hacer con su vida.
En este libro seguiremos la cotidianidad de la vida de Grace, la relación deteriorada con sus padres (que también pasan el luto por la muerte de Lucy a su manera), el amor y admiración que siente por su abuelo y las amistades vacías que aun mantiene con gente con la que se graduó años atrás. Algunos escenarios son un poco aburridos, pero sentía que podía encontrar algo especial conforme siguiera leyendo, así que no me detuve y no me equivoqué: su encuentro con Will Tucker. A ver, la amistad entre estos dos personajes no fue inmediata, si lo leen, al principio podrán pensar que no se llevan bien, pero Will queda encargado de orientar y llevar a Grace a los lugares estipulados en el mapa de los anhelos, así que su amistad empieza con pequeñas conversaciones en el camino, y surge una especie de complicidad cuando se dan cuenta que no son tan diferentes como pensaban: Will también se siente perdido, distintos motivos lo llevaron a mudarse a Nebraska y poner toda su vida en pausa.
El mapa de los anhelos es una gran herramienta para que Grace descubriera quien era, reforzara amistades que consideraba perdidas y encontrara motivación por la vida en general. Sanar una herida no es fácil, es un proceso que puede tardar muchos meses o años y no es lineal, pero Grace es consiente de eso y lo acepta, así como reconoce que desde que este juego llegó a sus manos, es una mujer diferente, a pesar que aún no tiene un trabajo estable y sigue viviendo con sus padres, su mundo interior es diferente y eso es un gran avance.
Es la primera vez que leo un libro de Alice Kellen y siento curiosidad de leer sus otras historias, si cuentan con un desarrollo de personajes como este libro, podría gustarme también. Me alegra haber leído este libro, así como espero que ustedes hayan disfrutado de esta reseña.

Oh yo leí ese libro, la verdad me gustó bastante este libro creo que su significado y la enseñanza que quizó dejar fue muy bonita y creo que a veces nos pasa como a la protagonista que perdemos el rumbo de nuestra vida y no sabemos cómo volver al ruedo. Así que fue muy buen libro.❤️
