This story is about the life of Henry Detamble, a man who suffers from a genetic disease in which he can travel through time involuntarily and uncontrollably; he is a librarian and has a beautiful artist wife with whom he tries to lead a normal life, although his disease leads him to disappear at any time of the day.

The Time Traveler's Wife is an interesting novel, very well constructed in terms of the relationship of the protagonists and also in terms of setting, as it explains in a simple way the atmosphere of each space that our protagonist visits and allows us to feel that we also travel through time with him. There are many amusing and interesting anecdotes, well, if you could travel through time wouldn't you use it to your advantage, but also some that are really unfortunate, to survive in a time space where Henry can't go to anyone and where he has nothing with him -not even his clothes-, he must resort to certain illegal acts such as stealing and trespassing, not to mention the long list of warnings for exhibitionism in public spaces... Believe me, it's a funny story, and also with romantic overtones once Clare Abshire enters the scene.

In the present, Henry and Clare have an age difference of 8 years, however, Clare has known him since she was 6 years old, while Henry knows her only at 28, sounds very strange doesn't it? Well, this is due to Henry's time travel, he can only travel to the places he has already known, so once he meets the Abshire family, he travels from time to time to the town where she grew up and meets his cute little wife and accompanies her during most of her childhood and adolescence, until the time when "his present self of Clare" can meet and get to know each other as it really should be.

The love story between these two is very beautiful, it is passionate and also tender, when Henry met Clare, he was not at his best and his illness overwhelmed him and he did not think he could have anything stable in his life, but this cheerful and intelligent artist helped him in many ways and little by little reformed his life and made him the man Clare knew as a child: mature, empathetic and living every moment.

This novel is narrated from the point of view of Henry and Clare, as you know it can be timely to know the points of view of the characters, on the one hand, we accompany Henry in his adventures to other epochs of time, on the other hand, we understand what Clare feels when her husband disappears: the uncertainty if he will return, the worry she feels if he is well... It is a story that has many nuances: drama, humor, fiction, romance, and I also feel that in general the rhythm of the reading is consistent, it is easy to remember each character and also to understand the reason of the facts once the context is explained.

From my perception, some negative points are that I feel that some chapters are loaded with filler information, usually books that detail too much each situation or take time to get to a point bore me and I pass by them; sometimes, while reading I just thought things like "and where this situation is going to take us? ", but if I continued reading it was because I got attached to the story and I can realize that the kind of novels in which they tell you the story of a person or a relationship from its beginnings and keep you up to date with everything that concerns throughout their life is a kind of novel that I like and comforts me (e.g. The Boy Who Drew Constellations, Love in the Time of Cholera).

"I'll Love You Forever" is the name of the film adaptation of the book, it was released in 2009. I remember I've seen the movie a couple of times (although I only remember the ending) so I was curious when I learned it was an adaptation and was interested in finding the book and reading it. I don't regret spending the last few weeks on this book, and yes, I'm talking weeks because I took my time with it, although I usually finish a book in a few days this one for some reason took me much longer.

Do I recommend reading it? Of course, it's warm, it's interesting, and it has lovely and real characters, it's easy to identify with them.

Esta historia se trata de la vida de Henry Detamble, un hombre que sufre una enfermedad genética en la que puede viajar a través del tiempo de manera involuntaria e incontrolable; es bibliotecario y tiene una hermosa esposa artista con la que trata de llevar una vida normal, aunque su enfermedad lo lleve a desaparecerse en cualquier momento del día.

La mujer del viajero en el tiempo es una novela interesante, muy bien construida en cuanto a la relación de los protagonistas y también en cuanto a ambientación, ya que nos explica de forma sencilla el ambiente de cada espacio que nuestro protagonista visita y permite que sintamos que también viajamos a través del tiempo con él. Hay muchas anécdotas divertidas e interesantes, pues, si pudieras viajar a través del tiempo ¿no lo usarías a tu favor?, pero también algunas que son realmente desgraciadas, para sobrevivir en un espacio temporal donde Henry no puede acudir a nadie y donde tampoco lleva nada consigo –ni siquiera su ropa-, debe recurrir a ciertos actos ilegales como hurtar y entrar en propiedad ajena, y ni hablar de la larga lista de amonestaciones por exhibicionismo en espacios públicos… Créanme, es una historia divertida, y también con matices románticos una vez entra en escena Clare Abshire.

En el presente, Henry y Clare solo se llevan 8 años, sin embargo, Clare lo conoce desde que tiene 6 años, mientras que Henry la conoce apenas a los 28, suena muy extraño ¿no es cierto? Bien, esto es debido a los viajes en el tiempo de Henry, que nada más puede viajar a los lugares que ya ha conocido, así que una vez conoce a la familia Abshire, viaja de vez en cuando al pueblo donde esta creció y conoce a su pequeña y linda esposa y la acompaña durante gran parte de su niñez y adolescencia, hasta el momento en que “su yo del presente de Clare” puedan encontrarse y conocerse como realmente y como debe ser.

La historia de amor entre estos dos es muy hermosa, es apasionada y también tierna, cuando Henry conoció a Clare, este no estaba en su mejor punto y su enfermedad lo agobiaba y no pensaba poder tener nada estable en su vida, pero esta artista alegre e inteligente lo ayudó de muchas maneras y poco a poco reformó su vida y lo hizo el hombre que Clare conoció cuando era niña: maduro, empático y que vive cada momento.

Esta novela está narrada desde el punto de vista de Henry y Clare, ya saben puede ser oportuno conocer los puntos de vista de los personajes, por un lado, acompañamos a Henry en sus aventuras a otras épocas del tiempo, por otro lado, entendemos lo que siente Clare cuando su esposo desaparece: la incertidumbre si volverá, la preocupación que siente si se encuentra bien… Es una historia que tiene muchos matices: drama, humor, ficción, romance, y también siento que en general el ritmo de la lectura es consistente, es fácil recordar a cada personaje y también entender el porqué de los hechos una vez es explicado el contexto.

Desde mi percepción, algunos puntos negativos radican en que siento que algunos capítulos están cargados de información de relleno, normalmente los libros que detallan demasiado cada situación o les toma tiempo llegar a un punto me aburren y paso de largo con ellos; a veces, mientras leía solo pensaba cosas como “¿y esta situación a donde nos va a llevar?”, “¿es realmente necesaria toda esta explicación?”, pero si continué leyendo fue porque me encariñé con la historia y puedo darme cuenta que el tipo de novelas en el que te narran la historia de una persona o de una relación desde sus inicios y te mantiene al tanto de todo lo que concierne a lo largo de su vida es un tipo de novela que me gusta y me reconforta (por ejemplo, El chico que dibujaba constelaciones, El amor en los tiempos del cólera).

“Te amaré por siempre” es el nombre de la adaptación cinematográfica del libro, fue sacada en 2009. Recuerdo que he visto la película un par de veces (aunque solo recuerdo el final) así que me pareció curioso cuando supe que era una adaptación y me interesó encontrar el libro y leerlo. No me arrepiento de haber dedicado las últimas semanas a este libro, y sí, hablo de semanas porque me tomé mi tiempo con él, aunque suelo acabar con un libro en pocos días este por alguna razón me ha llevado mucho más tiempo.

¿Recomiendo su lectura? Por supuesto, es cálida, es interesante, y tiene unos personajes encantadores y reales, es fácil de identificarse con ellos.
