So much talent! | Art school end-of-course exhibition // ¡Cuánto talento! | Exposición de fin de curso de una escuela de artes

Yesterday I accompanied my mom to an end of course art exhibition at my brother's school, of course I couldn't pass up going to support him and also stop by to say hello to my old teachers (I just graduated last year). This school is a technical school of plastic and visual arts, as you well know, art is my passion, and going to see the works and the progress that all these students have made throughout the school year generated a lot of interest and excitement for me.

As they started the event and opened the doors of the school's event hall, I was surprised because I did not expect so many works to be exhibited; during and after the pandemic it was very difficult for teachers (especially those who teach art subjects) to support and encourage students to complete the projects, in addition, many children do not have enough resources to purchase materials and carry out the tasks of sculpture or even painting ...

But it was very good to realize that despite the difficulties, there was a lot of material on display in areas such as sculpture, drawing, painting, wood carving, jewelry and graphic arts.

Throughout the exhibition I took as many pictures as I could, but there were many people gathered admiring the works of their children or friends and at the end of the event I forgot to go around the spaces again to take more pictures.

These paintings generate me a lot of nostalgia because I am almost sure that they were made by 4th year students, from that year they start teaching the subject of painting and landscapes are one of the themes that the teacher (one of the best I've had) puts into practice, so it makes me remember that time when I spent hours in his workshop with my old classmates focused on making the landscape look realistic.

On a table I found these little beauties, I was very tender about the small easels and the dimensions of these canvases; I loved that even the easels were colorful, just like the paintings they hold.

Some children who enter this school don't know how to draw and feel insecure in front of other children who have a better command of the art tools, but the nice thing is that there is a lot of support among the students for carrying out the works, I have never seen rivalries to see who is the best or anything like that.

We are in one of the regions with more religious sense of Venezuela, where the Virgen del Valle, also called "Patroness of sailors", is venerated, so here you can see some paintings made on wood, what I like is that each painting has a very personal sense.

The graphic arts section was very interesting, I particularly liked the creative way in which the works were exhibited. Usually there are more students studying design and photography than drawing or sculpture, but as far as I could tell, this year that was not the case, so there were not too many works exhibited.

Going back to the drawing area, the ones I show you below were made by 5th year students, next year they would be graduating, and I was very surprised by the talent and ingenuity that I saw in all the works.

I remember that the teacher always encouraged to use creativity and inventiveness in his classes and in all the drawings we did in general, and I could see that he still applies the same advice to his new students.

There really is a lot of interesting material here, the drawing on the right caused me a sense of trypophobia, but I still feel it's great, I think it's an excellent example of how light is distributed over one or more spherical objects.

This pair of drawings were among my favorites, they were done by different students but somehow have a kind of harmony or sense of being next to each other. At this exhibition I approached several of these kids and congratulated them on their work, some of them already knew me from the time I studied there, but I also saw some new faces.

So much for today's post, I hope you enjoyed seeing these works as much as I did, there really is a lot of talent here and I hope that many of these kids continue with their studies in this school. It should be noted that the only thing I really regretted about this visit was to see the facilities in decay, although it is a public school and should have the support of the state for the conservation of their classrooms and green spaces, for many years (even during the time I studied there) is a problem that has been maintained and no one does anything to restore and remodel the facades or provide better protection at the entrance to prevent theft of equipment or materials that are stored in the workshops, which is very unfortunate.

El día de ayer acompañé a mi mamá a una exposición de arte de final de curso en la escuela de mi hermano, por supuesto que no podía pasar por alto el ir a apoyarlo y también pasar a saludar a mis antiguos profesores (recién me gradué el año pasado). Esta escuela es una escuela técnica de artes plásticas y visuales, como bien saben, el arte es mi pasión, e ir a ver las obras y los avances que todos estos estudiantes han realizado a lo largo del año escolar me generó mucho interés y emoción.

En tanto dieron inicio al evento y abrieron las puertas del salón de eventos de la escuela, me sorprendí porque no esperaba que hubieran tantos trabajos expuestos; durante y después de la pandemia fue muy complicado para los profesores (especialmente los que imparten materias de arte) apoyar e incentivar a los alumnos a cumplir con los proyectos, además, muchos niños no cuentan con los recursos suficientes para adquirir materiales y llevar a cabo las tareas de escultura o si quiera de pintura...

Pero fue muy bueno darme cuenta que a pesar de las dificultades, había mucho material expuesto en áreas como escultura, dibujo, pintura, tallado en madera, bisutería y artes gráficas.

A lo largo de la exposición tomé tantas fotos como pude, pero había mucha gente reunida admirando los trabajos de sus hijos o amigos y al final del evento olvidé recorrer nuevamente los espacios para tomar más fotografías.

Estas pinturas me generan mucha nostalgia porque estoy casi segura que fueron realizadas por alumnos de 4to año, a partir de ese año se empiezan a impartir la materia de pintura y los paisajes son una de las temáticas que el profesor (uno de los mejores que he tenido) pone en práctica, así que me hace recordar ese tiempo en que pasaba horas en su taller con mis antiguos compañeros enfocados en hacer que el paisaje se viera realista.

En una mesa encontré estas pequeñas bellezas, me causó mucha ternura los pequeños caballetes y las dimensiones de estos lienzos; me encantó que incluso los caballetes fueran coloridos, igual que las pinturas que sostienen.

Algunos niños que entran en esta escuela no saben dibujar y se sienten inseguros frente a otros niños que tienen mejor dominio de las herramientas de arte, pero lo bonito es que hay mucho apoyo entre los alumnos por llevar a cabo los trabajos, nunca he visto rivalidades por ver quien es el mejor o algo así.

Estamos en una de las regiones con más sentido religioso de Venezuela, donde se venera mucho la Virgen del Valle, también llamada "Patrona de los marineros", así que acá pueden ver algunas pinturas hechas sobre madera, lo que me gusta es que cada pintura tiene un sentido muy personal.

La sección de artes gráficas fue muy interesante, me gustó particularmente la manera tan creativa en como expusieron los trabajos. Generalmente hay más alumnos cursando la mención de diseño y fotografía que de dibujo o escultura, pero por lo que pude notar, este año no fue así, por ende no hay demasiados trabajos expuestos.

Volviendo al área de dibujo, los que les muestro a continuación fueron realizados por alumnos de 5to año, el año siguiente se estarían graduando, y quedé muy sorprendida por el talento y el ingenio que vi en todos los trabajos.

Recuerdo que el profesor siempre motivaba a usar la creatividad y la inventiva en sus clases y en todos los dibujos que en general hiciéramos, y pude comprobar que sigue aplicando los mismos consejos en sus nuevos alumnos.

Realmente hay mucho material interesante aquí, el dibujo de la derecha me causó una sensación de tripofobia, pero igual siento que está genial, creo que es un excelente ejemplo de como se distribuye la luz sobre uno o varios objetos esféricos.

Este par de dibujos fueron de mis favoritos, fueron realizados por alumnas diferentes pero de alguna manera tienen una especie de armonía o sentido al estar al lado de la otra. En esta exposición me acerqué a varios de estos chicos y los felicité por sus trabajos, algunos de ellos ya me conocían por el tiempo que estudié allí, pero también vi algunos rostros nuevos.

Hasta aquí llegó el post de hoy, espero que hayan disfrutado tanto como yo de ver estos trabajos, realmente hay mucho talento aquí y espero que muchos de estos chicos continúen con sus estudios en esta escuela. Cabe acotar que lo único que realmente lamenté de esta visita fue ver las instalaciones en decadencia, aunque es una escuela pública y debería contar con el apoyo del estado para la conservación de sus aulas y espacios verdes, desde hace muchos años (incluso durante el tiempo que yo estudié allí) es un problema que se ha mantenido y que nadie hace nada por restaurar y remodelar las fachadas o brindar mejor protección a la entrada para evitar hurtos de los equipos o materiales que se guardan en los talleres, lo cual es muy lamentable.
