Wishing Upon an Elder Scrolls Star

avatar

When I was 7 years old, I received a Nintendo (NES) for Christmas which marks the beginning of my video game journey. My Christmas wish that year was actually an Apple computer, but for some reason my parents bought me a Nintendo instead.

My biggest Christmas video game wish this year is actually two-part and has to do with Elder Scrolls 6.

My wish is that the game would be -

  • 1: Available for PlayStation, Xbox, PC
  • 2: Ready to be released immediately

Source

I have been looking forward to the next Elder Scrolls game for a few years now. Skyrim (Elder Scrolls 5) is one of my favorite games of all time.

Skrim features an immersive scenic environment to explore and natural feeling play control. The game begins with your character escaping capture. From there you have total freedom and you can go anywhere and do anything you want. Over time, you progress your character and can collect and earn stuff. This allows you to eventually settle down in a house and begin a life.

Overall, the game was engrossing with a certain fun factor. Sometimes I would find myself doing things like hiking to the top of a mountain peak simply to enjoy the panoramic view or taking in a starry night sky.

Now let us address the two parts of my wish -

First Part

In the summer of 2020, I was disappointed to hear the news that Microsoft had bought Bethesda Studios for a record amount of money. Bethesda is the studio behind the Elder Scrolls series as well as some other popular ones such as Fallout. I immediately feared that from now on Elder Scrolls games might be Xbox exclusives. Now more recently my fears have come true. The studio has pretty much confirmed that Elder Scrolls 6 will be an Xbox and PC exclusive.

Source

This is an issue for me. I have always purchased game consoles for playing serious games. The only games I have ever played on one of my PC’s are browser games such as Farmville and Splinterlands. Even then my PC’s have always been low level enough that they are strained by these simple browser games.

In terms of consoles, I have never owned an Xbox console and have instead always chosen a PlayStation instead for a couple reasons. The first is that PlayStation is more popular and it is what most of my friends have. Second, I am a fan of many of Sony’s exclusive series such as God of War, Uncharted, and Racket and Clank.

Second Part

The second issue is that even if the game was available in the Sony ecosystem I am still going to have to wait several more years for it to be released. The news regarding the next Elder Scrolls game has always been discouraging over the years and even now. The studio has constantly said stuff like it will be years before it will be released. It is still in the development phase. There are many other games we are developing right now that are a priority over it like Starfield. Then Covid hits and that is obviously going to results in more delays.

The question is: When I eventually upgrade from my PS4, will this one game persuade me to buy an Xbox Series X/S instead of a PS5. I wonder if I would be willing to support the company that many people on the internet abbreviate as M$. If I had to make that decision today I would say perhaps. There are a few exclusive series on Xbox that I have been curious to play such as Forza and Halo.

One option could be buying an Xbox and leaving my PS4 attached to my TV as well. That way I would still be able to play my old PS4 library without owning a PS5 which is backwards compatible with most PS4 games. In addition, early in the PS5 era, many games have been released for both PS4 and 5, giving me the option of buying the PS4 version of them.

So I do not get my wish this Christmas, but perhaps I will on Christmas a few years down the road.

For this Christmas, I decided to treat myself to a couple games on PS4 that will make me feel like a kid. During a Black Friday sale, I bought SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled for $20 apiece. The SpongeBob game is a platformer which is a remake of a 2003 game. The Crash game is a kart racing game which is a remaster of the 1999 PlayStation game. It is pretty much Sony’s version of Mario Kart. I am waiting until Christmas to open them and am looking forward to it.

Have a festive Holiday season and an awesome start to the New Year

Yeah, the sad thing is am not even sure if Elder Scrolls is even coming out anytime soon. Also, I highly recommend that if you get a PC, you should play from there, it's a much superior experience there.

I think there will still be a lot more waiting. It is unlikely to be released anytime soon. If I ever decided to build or buy a gaming PC I would definitely play Elder Scrolls there because of all the mods.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

Any game that is Mario Kart like is a fun one to play.

I agree and in my opinion Mario Kart 64 is the GOAT of kart racing games.

I haven’t played any Elder Scrolls but I get your pain man, with so many years without a proper sequel to Skyrim.

I didn't know that about ESO6. I would be playing it on PC anyways so to me it doesn't matter but it really sucks for all the Playstation players out there. Exclusivity is one of the things I hate about modern gaming.

I think exclusivity has always existed to a certain extent because console/computer makers want you to buy their hardware.

It's a valid reason for sure. I still don't like it :P

If you're still holding Atom and Osmo/staking, you probably got a few airdrops recently. Many are available to claim, and some can start being used to stake or flip. Have you been following any of them?

I have OSMO staked and am part of the ATOM/OSMO pool. However I’m not aware of any airdrops I’ve received or can receive. Can you please elaborate. EDIT: I found a Youtube video that discusses some cosmos airdrops such as Lum and Evmos.

I can share after Xmas. In short, follow “confident in crypto” and “cryptocito” for steady Cosmos news. There was also an airdrop for Huahua on Onmiflix, much like Juno there too, you can claim via Keplr wallet. Staking both of those on Omniflix has been high yielding. Also Desmos, Comdex depending on residency, and several more. Will circle back, but Liam from Confident in Crypto is a good beacon to backtrack on.

Thanks for the info. It looks like I started down the right path because 'confident in crypto' was the first video/channel I discovered.

While on the topic, I have a stack of the Xbox original console, 5+ Xbox 360s, Xbox One, and several others between PS2, PS3s, PS TV, 8+ Wii's, tons of games, and even a sealed new Xbox Forza you mentioned. Recently found a sealed Xbox Simpsons game from 2001. Logically also have a mountain of controllers and accessories. You want to talk about flashbacks!! I live in one. I walk by them every day in my apartment and always have the temptation to get lost in the retros. Heck, I even have the older ones like Sega Genesis, Sega CD, N64, NES, SNES, and more. I keep them in bins to test later. I've sold lots of handhelds and other systems that are too long to list too. Just when I thought it'd be too hard to get going to play a bit, I then find a Super NES Classic Edition with tons of games pre-loaded to really take away all excuses, but I resist. All of this was tossed out. It's sick how people don't appreciate them, and here we are going back in time and actually wanting those good old games back.

My favorite find was the Nintendo Power Glove, but I sold it. It was sweet to wear for a few minutes and feel all the potential all the kids in the late 1980's must've felt.

I still have most of my video game stuff from when I was little stored in a couple boxes. It must be fun for you to be able to collect games from different systems. Probably a lot of video game stuff out there because parents throw it out when their kids leave home.

I actually have emulators and ROMS for every game on NES, Super NES, and Sega Genesis. But in many ways the 2D side scrolling games from my childhood were not as fun as I remember them and I have not played any of them in years. At this point in my life, I stick to playing 3D games(PS1/N64 era or later) as well as P2E of course.

Funny, I was just talking about emulators with my friend on the train home for Christmas. I’m giving my brother an SNES classic mini from the curbs that I tested last night and was experiencing the 2D sentiments then as you mentioned. Some of it actually made me dizzy.

Are any of your games from childhood sealed new? If so, they’d be worth a pretty penny.

Unfortunately no sealed games. Just a sealed Super Nes controller.
