A proposal I Never Expected Made the New Year A Memorable One

I have had a lot of amazing memories in the past both as a child and as an adult. Unforgettable new year memories that always put me into deep smiles upon reflection. I usually love to make every new year stand out in my capacity by creating nice memories with people around me but then, I had a particular new year celebration in the past that really stuck in my mind. Can I ever forget that lovely day? Of course never! I wasn't expecting it that year It was 1st January 2014. A day my husband proposed to me and I said yessssssssss😍💞

That feeling when you are sure of having the love of your life all to yourself is amazing. The time to wake up from the bed and see him just beside you, the shoulder to lean on and the one to keep you warm when needed. It was a day I craved to experience. The day came and I grabbed it with everything in me...yes, I have longed to hear that word "will you marry me?" after 3 years of knowing each other closely 😂.

I knew my husband even before I entered the university. He is a good friend to my brother and visits my house once in a while then. I loved his voice, I would always stay close to hear his conversation with my brother 🤫. The young guy liked me too but I didn't notice on time. In a nutshell, we were just admiring each other from a distance.. lolz. Then when I entered the university during my second year, we became so close to each and exchanged contact. Wow...I think I am shy to disclose how everything went here 😂 but I will try a bit.. lolz.

From my second year till my final year in 2013, we had a nice time together trying to understand ourselves. He resides in Lagos state Nigeria but I was schooling in Enugu state then. We got to see each other only when he visits from Lagos state. All his attempts to make me visit Lagos state proved abortive. I had set certain standards in that relationship and that made me not travel to Lagos then. Due to that reason, we weren't seeing more often until I graduated sometime in November 2013 and he couldn't wait to travel home by December that year to see me. It was Christmas season and he landed, at the sight of him in my house, I felt so much excited...I didn't even know when I hugged 🫂 him out of excitement 😍...my grandma was even confused because she wasn't aware of what was going on between us. Throughout the Christmas season, we went on some occasions together, we visited some of his friends and on the 31st of December, he told me about his traveling back to Lagos state on the 3rd of January 2014. I was like, oh..he is going back again, when will I behold this handsome face again..a lot of thoughts ran into my mind..he didn't even mention where our relationship was heading again and he is going back, huh? ...I quickly removed my mind from that and made calls about my applications to take up a job in Abuja and leave for the state just after the new year celebration.

Then on the 1st January 2014, it was 6:am and my phone rang, I peeped and it was him...I was still lying down on the bed as I went for a cross overnight the previous day. He then said I should get ready that we are gracing an occasion inside the town by 2 pm. My mind didn't go to anything close to the proposal, but on getting to the venue, what I saw wasn't looking like what he said earlier. He came to my house to pick me up but on getting there, I saw some of his friends sitting at a round table with a kind of goodies...wow, I suspected something..lol. in less than 20mins, the whole place was so lively with romantic music 🎶🎶 playing in the background...hmmm, he finally let the cat out of the bag, brought out a golden ring 💍 and said so softly, please marry me... wooooottttt 🫢, he took me unaware, not even a hint but guess what, I said yesssssss with a kiss and a hug 😍🎊🎉. Then the environment changed immediately... everyone around was just so excited 😊, we danced and had a toast together...we gisted about life and talked about marriage plans in a bit. It was a day full of nice surprises. Then on the 13th of August 2014, we had our traditional marriage and on the 29th of December that year, we had our white wedding 💒

1st January 2014, was an unforgettable memory that has stuck into my heart to date, the best new year ever with a lovely memory of our new beginning 🙂
