How I lost my money in the act of borrowing

I have had a bitter experience in the past about borrowing people money, so as my husband. Now, I understand that people experience some financial burden at some point in their lives, and what they do is run to their close friends for assistance, which is good, and I am not an exception either. One thing that has saved the day for me many times is the good circle of friends I have. I have gotten help from most of them on different occasions when I needed financial assistance, but what I do with every effort when I request such assistance is quickly plan on how to pay it back, either in one go or in installments. This will give you room for another opportunity to get assisted, should you need one in the future!

One of the things that makes me uncomfortable is debt! Whenever I remember that I am owning anyone, my heart beats a bit. This is how much being in debt affects me emotionally, but there are times when I can't control the situation and must reach out to friends for assistance. For the record, I have never disappointed anyone in this regard. Even when I can't meet a promised date, I ensure to carry the lender along and seek a little more time. I believe this act will prove to the lender that you are committed to paying it back regardless.

However, whenever it comes to my turn, people take advantage of my soft heart.
I have lost money several times with friends in the act of borrowing, which I just overlooked after considering some certain factors; but then there is this particular one that made me take another decision about borrowing anyone money. There is one man who approached me last year in need of $30 to buy food and fill his cooking gas cylinder for his family. He promised to return it the next month after making sales. He is a family man who does good business, so I never imagined that he wouldn't pay me back. One month to four months later, I didn't see any refund, and I started calling the man. He kept giving me empty promises, and on the fifth month, he asked me to forward my account details to him for the payment. I did and kept expecting an alert that never came. I tried everything I could do politely to get my money back, especially when I noticed that he had started making sales, but to no avail.

Recently, I heard that he opened a laundry shop in a very good location, and I even saw his WhatsApp status update on that. I quickly sent him a message reminding him of my money, but the whole thing played out as if I were begging him to give me money. Maybe it's my weakness that caused his non challant attitude because I find it difficult to be harsh to people; perhaps he would have released my money by being harsh towards him.

My new resolution on borrowing money...

The experience with the man made me come up with the decision that I wouldn't borrow anyone money that I couldn't overlook if it didn't play out fine in the end. The $30 may not be too big, but I gave it out hoping to get it back in a month. However, in a situation where I cannot borrow a particular amount requested, I will rather give the person any amount I can give out without expecting any payment in return!

Have you had a similar experience like mine? How do you deal with people who lend money without showing any interest in paying it back? Do you think my resolution is good enough? Please share with me in the comment section😇.

You are just like me, I hate debts with passion, it robs me of my peace of mind, but as you cited, there are certain circumstances we just will be in dire need and have no other option than to borrow, in which I try as much to meet up with the date, sadly this is not the case with people that borrow from me, I can't count my money outside, especially as a business woman, rendering services at the end of the expected period still no payment, it makes me sad too and not want to render help, I just finish talking to one some minutes ago, it's like I'm begging for my own money.

That's the experience with most people in our world today... it's better people start using the word dash instead of borrow if they don't have any plan of paying back.

Atimes u will expect your message back till thy kingdom come 🤣🤣

I had a similar history like yours. It was when I was student ( for students money is always in need 😃) I phoned him thousands of times for paying me back. That was a great lesson for me))

As he is opening shop, I am there first thing in the morning. I will cause scene in his vicinity especially when he makes his money. Finally, he must give me that money back because I can't simply let it go. People always take advantage of nice people but I won't try it again. I use to say to some of my friends, “ be wicked” this world and most people in it will make you be harsh!... Maybe you should apply another method, he might give you afterwards.

Debt is something we can’t throw of just like that. There are situations when we are going to be in need and have to lend.

Timely payback matters a lot and if we aren’t going to do so at least we should make the lender aware of it. I am in both shoes. I borrowed from a close friend of mine and yet to pay him back, but he know all about my condition and never knew me as such a person that borrows because it’s my first time borrowing from him. Hopefully I can payback on time. It’s like a burden on me.

And I also have my money out too. But what can a man do? Than to have patience and hope they pay on time.

Your resolution is good. Better to give the amount you can afford and forget than to try satisfying and get hurt at the end.

Nice write.

I understand your point
I do borrow too but when I say the word borrow " to anyone, I try to pay back but some people will convert borrow to dash 😂😂
And atimes dey don't want to pay back even when they have...it's an attitude that shouldn't be encouraged
I now borrow what I can afford to lose
I love your contribution ABD✅👍😍

When I lend money to a friend or someone, I never expect it to be returned. That's just my mindset so I don't get frustrated because I also do not like asking for my money back. And so if I lend money, I only lend much that I could afford to lose.

Hello nke
You didn't reply me my last comment on your post. I am very sorry if it hurts you. I was just kidding..okay let it go.

Borrowing money money is never supported by me. But sometimes in distress, people become helpless. I hope this kind of situation doesn't come for me. I have no stroy with borrowing but there are a few about lending it 😂😂. Because of some selfless person, I am now against lending too.

Your new resolution of not borrowing is generous.❤️🔥

Oh my goodness 🤭🤭🤭
I must have missed the comment

I am so sorry about that
I do reply comments , it's part of the engagement which I try to maintain
I am so sorry please

When someone is in distress, it's good to assist but sometimes people misuse the opportunity by not attempting to pay back if when they have it... that's what I don't like about borrowing

Hahaha 😂😂
U are now against lending too? It's well oo 😂

This is the thing with lending out money to people. It's people like this man that could make another person be sceptical when it comes to giving out money.

He came to you in his time of need and you assisted him as a good hearted person. He was supposed to pay back with a grateful heart but instead he decided to make you beg for your own money...tch.

You handled the situation well and also made a good decision. Lending out money that you can easily forget is best to prevent future heartbreaks 😅
