Is AI Killing Our Creativity?

The evolution of technology is no doubt making a lot of us less creative. Without going too far, I will use myself as an example.

I remember a few years back here on Hive when most of us in this HL community got so intentional with Canva design. I was not anywhere close to being good at graphics, but whenever I see the beautiful cover image of other HL members in their posts, I admire it and wish to be like them.

In no distant time, I developed interest and started learning canva design. I was jumping from one online tutorial to another just to be able to design my cover image for my blogs on my own on Canva. At some point, I started getting better, but not for long; the use of AI images and ChatGPT became so rampant. Upon inquiry, I heard it's acceptable for HIVE, and honestly, it was a big relief. I embraced it to the point that I no longer disturb my brain any longer.

Challenging my creativity on Canva designs became a bygone. All the sketching and imagination to come up with something beautiful became a forgotten issue. AI to my rescue, indeed, and apparently laziness!!. Again, I used to finish writing my blog and start thinking of a suitable title to give my blog, but not anymore. No more deeper thinking but an easy way, a shortcut, asking AI to give me a title for my blog post. Imagine sending my brain to work, creating a lengthy blog post with my brain , but when it's time to give it a title, I run to AI to assist me; that's laziness.

If not for the Hive blockchain frowning at AI-generated posts, I know that 90% of us here would have been using it without stress, myself included.

To be honest, the rate at which humans generally exercise their creativity is getting low day by day. Just by a click, an architectural drawing is generated; by a click, a beautiful video is created; by a click, nice images are created, and the list keeps going. Even in my home, my kids already learned about AI, and whenever their assignment appears difficult, you will hear this common language, "Let's ask AI," and they will begin to look for my phone everywhere to ask AI an answer. We are stuck indeed. I wonder if today's generation will learn how to do major surgeries and other sensitive work.

This evolution is amazing but becoming a threat to human creativity, and the more we keep relying on AI to think or create on our behalf, the less we stretch our own minds, and it's a slap that we can't sit on our thoughts anymore and our trying to become very limited.

So how can we stay creative with the high tech in play? Well, be intentional with the use of these machines; we should try to use them as a support rather than a complete replacement. It's not wise to trade effort with ease because even though it looks convenient to use AI for most work, we may lose something valuable, and that's our God-given human expression.

Overall, finding a balance is a necessity. We must keep thinking and creating….

i really appreciate your honesty in admitting that you now prefer to ask ai for titles instead of thinking them up, the same happens to many of us because of the speed

I don't want to agree but I can't deny the reality. Because of AI our task became so easy that we don't need to force our brain to do something creative. We just need to give few commands and our task is done. So, I agree with you in this case.

Eya thanks for sharing your reality. I think I have to agree with you since is a true life situation. My perspective is that creativity has been boosted by technological advancement.
