My Experience With Baby Vaccination

avatar

One thing that makes mothers visit the hospital periodically after 9 months of pregnancy journey and delivery is the baby's vaccination. It's another phase that makes me feel so emotional seeing my little born being punctured with a needle 💉 by the health caregivers. But then, I know how important this vaccination is to babies and that's why I try my best to withstand the crying, the restlessness, the fever, and the pain that comes with the vaccine most times.

Before delivery, mothers are usually and constantly reminded of the importance of immunization for the newborn. There was no antenatal visit I attended in Lagos state Nigeria where the nurses didn't lecture mothers on this subject. According to the nurses, immunization is a good way of getting your child immune to a particular disease by administering a suitable vaccine to that disease to help babies build stronger antibodies that will keep them protected even when they are exposed to that disease or infection. Babies receive immunization against diseases like polio, measles, yellow fever, chicken pox, tetanus, etc. Imagine not getting your child immune and the child contracting any of these infections while growing up, of course, prevention is better than cure. It's very important that we get our babies immunized no matter the pain they will pass through, after all, it's for their good.

Immunization cards for my 3 kids

My first son is 7 years plus, and I vividly remember my journey with him during his immunization period. The sleepless nights I passed through after each immunization, especially during the first year of his life. The fever and pain were almost unbearable to the point that my husband almost gave up on the immunization. The same goes for my second son, each time my immunization appointment was approaching, my heart will be panting..lol. But I ensure to do the needful on the quest for the good health of my child.

A lot of mothers don't complete their immunization routine. It's expected to last for 5 years but some mums do stop at age one. The vitamin A that is being given to children from one-year-old and at every 6 months intervals till 5 years in life is also very vital and shouldn't be omitted. My first and second sons are above 5 years old and I completed the immunization for both of them. My last child is 1 year and 7 months and we are still on the journey. I hate to miss my appointment, but each day I miscalculate the date, I feel so bad and run to the hospital the next day.

Here in Lagos state, there are lots of government health centers where one can get her child immunized for free. Some people pay huge amounts of money 🤑💰 to get their child immunized in private hospitals but the government has made it available without a dime. Not only in Lagos state, but other states in Nigeria also has access to this free immunization so why not immunize your child, from my research, it's not harmful but good for children because I have heard of parents who think otherwise.

Being a mother comes with so many experiences and the vaccination is a part mothers should sacrifice their time, bear the pain with the child and be sure that their babies complete the doses up to 5 years after birth.

Mothers do so much for the wellbeing of their children.

You always have to be mindful and thoughtful about every single detail about your children.

Thank God the immunization is free oh. It wouldn't be so easy every now and the if not.

You're an amazing mother, Nkem.

It's really important to keep track of this immunization appointments for children till 5 years and get them immunized. It will go a long way in saving us stress of illness and money as well.

Anything for my child, yes..I will do it.
Before conceiving, I already knew about all of these and I was ready for them all...it's a sacrifice mothers ought to do unfortunately, most of my friends stops at age one , they are yet to understand the importance of it..but hopefully dey will

Thank you so much jay for your kind words
And happy birthday to you ❤️❣️❤️

On any appointment of immunization for my daughter, I used to pity her and the mother. Sometimes I will carry her on my chest and pet her to sleep. My daughter is very strong, she would still play but not much, then at night she would now be looking slowly 😃😃

It's very important for them, so we need to support them till they complete it.

Immunization is very important because it is a child's protection against any diseases.
I can relate to your situation when my child was still under 1 year old. She also cried a lot during vaccination and even had a fever on her first in the health center.
