My First Day in Court: What an Experience!

avatar

It was my first time going to the courtroom and observing cases being handled by the judge. My brother has been going through a divorce case for some time now, and on this day, I decided to go along with him at least to support him and encourage him in every challenge he has been going through regarding the court case.

It was never his intention to go for divorce, but every effort to resolve the terrible conflicts in his marriage proved abortive. His primary aim of going to the court was basically to get the custody of his only daughter, but the judge said divorce must happen before he can get custody, so he has been following the due process to ensure a good ending for the case.

I will say it was a nice experience being in the court; maybe I can call it an adventure. I watched cases being treated professionally. I watched lawyers handle their client cases, backing it up with evidence, and I was like, 'Wow, this is how it is done here?' Fellow lawyers were suing their opponent for delay in taking the needed action. They were suing each other, and the judge was in agreement with the whole drama. I call it 'drama' because I was naive to the whole thing ... lol, but good enough; it was an exposure I loved and would like to experience again and again.

Another thing I experienced in the court was how sacred the place is, like you cannot answer calls or allow your phone to ring or eat in court. The whole environment was calm with orderliness, far more than we see in churches, and I was baffled on how humans can respect rules even more than they do in churches. In my church, people answer calls inside church, eat and press their phones like it's nobody's business, even with clear rules in the church.

It surprises me again, to see, how the judge is being respected, how people bow at his arrival and how they bow too when stepping out. That's a lot of respect, and I wish we did so for God, whom we cannot see but yet honour his supremacy. Overall, it was a nice dialogue for my brothers' cases, and the two lawyers involved arrived at a fair agreement while the judge adjourned their case to November this year for final hearing and judgement.

Hopefully, we will be able to witness the day soon.

Sometimes, I feel like the reason divorce cases are adjourned so far is because they want the couple to settle at home. And Ive actually seen it work because time has its way of healing things. Anyway, I wish him the best in this draining process.💕

About reverence and sacredness of place, some people don't reverence God because they cannot see him and also he is not violent but when they go to court they observe rules because they fear being embarrassed for going against the rule, immediate action is taken there. They key thing here is discipline yourself, so you can keep to rules anywhere you find yourself.
Am so sorry for your brothers divorce case. Nobody wishes for a broken home
