My Privacy Is Not Your Backup Plan
What if the government is the threat to our safety? Would it be wise to give up our right to privacy by letting the government have unfettered access to our lives and data as long as it means we will always be safe?

Let me not sound like this question is a bit complicated because it's not, especially for someone living in my country, where safety is nothing to write home about and where the government is careless about safety. So what are we talking about here? I didn't mean to talk about my country this soon, but blame this prompt, because it's difficult to discuss safety without opening up to where our government has failed us and kept failing us.
A country where if you live to be safe the next day, you thank your God for keeping you safe, not because there are security personnel making sure that innocent lives are not butchered like fowls. What type of safety are we even talking about when people can go to church to worship their God and their corpse will be brought back home? What manner of safety is guaranteed when farmers go for their usual farming and their heads will be cut off, and students living in dormitories are being abducted and their abductors request ransom and our government offers it to them without arresting them? What does that tell us?
And many more terrible things that kept unfolding every now and then, which makes us practically live in fear. An ordinary balloon burst; people were running helter-skelter in my community the other day. The fear of Fulani herdsmen is the beginning of wisdom, lol, but then it is what it is.
Many rich and middle-class men in our country don't wait for any government to secure them anymore; they hire security men and have their peace. We here; we are just in God's hands, using a padlock to padlock our doors while trusting God for safety. So you see, I am not letting my privacy go to any so-called government of my country because they always fail, and this time they will still fail even while having access to my privacy.
What are they doing with it by the way? Like say they can hurt a fly. Excuse me, my privacy is my privacy; the name alone, "privacy," has said it all. Thou shall respect my privacy and never invade it.
If things should be handled rightly, we are supposed to be provided with adequate safety without any privacy demand. It is the work of the government to protect their citizens, and for this failed government of mine, it's even risky to give them full access to my data. Because will I be safe? When they are turning to sponsor terrorism, how am I sure that my privacy will be safe in their hands. It's a no-no idea; everyone deserves his or her privacy. Even down to my little kids, I ensure to give them their needed space without invading.

Nna it so sad and so pathetic at the same time. Shame to this country.
Its not what we should be discussing but when the need calls for it. They are really shameless and disgusting 🤮.
Its really so sad at this point. “Only God protects”.
Only God..trust the government at your own detriment
That is it sis 😍.
Bless mid-week 😇💕
The recent massacre in Jos has been disheartening to say the least! Lives being taken away from young people with promising futures, people living in fear of what happens next, and the government doing absolutely nothing. It only proves the point that security is not a concern to those who lead us. Instead, they turn their backs to snatch our basic human rights away from us. So imagine how much more they would do if they had unfettered access to our daily activities? It will be a bloodshed and total control of our lives.
So no citizen should be that gullible to ever trade their privacy for security, given the circumstances. Thank you for this wonderful post, Nkem.
Even if they force us to do so....I will express my stubborn because theur second name is failure
Ndi ara!!
What about the waste of lives we just witnessed this week in Benue State, not to talk about the one in Jos?
People were sleeping at night and were guned down in their homes. From sleep to their grave yard. What did their state government do?
What did the Federal Government of the Country do?.
Our lives are totally in God's hands.
I think that there is no reason to trust the government when it comes to security. I think it's the responsibility of government to protect us even without invading our privacy. And without privacy I think we are not safe either as I don't trust on government.
