THERE IS THIS ONE THING I LOVE ABOUT CHRISTMAS

I woke up this morning with a touch of harmattan and then it reminds me again about the Christmas season. Here in Lagos state western part of Nigeria, we don't normally experience harmattan that much like the people living in the Eastern and Northern parts of Nigeria. The touch of harmattan gives me this unusual feeling about the season 🥳🎉🎉...I think I can't explain it better but it's one of the breezes that tunes me in so much about the season...

I love the Christmas season so much❤️❤️❤️. The fun, the songs, the spread of love, the gift 🎁, the togetherness, the food, and everything about the season always makes me feel unusual happiness. There is one thing that makes me always look forward to the season every year and that one thing is the family get-together💝

I grew up celebrating Christmas with large families. I have mentioned before that my grandma raised me right from age 7 till I got married in her house. Being a polygamous family, it's usually a celebration that involves lots of adults and children from both wives. The men who have married will all come back together from wherever city they reside to the family house for the celebration. Those residing in the hometown with their kids as well will all gather at my grandma's house from the 24th of December to 27th before they can go back to their respective homes for the new year celebration.

That 3 days of family get-together is always an unforgettable memory that makes my heart sing with joy, so delightful 🙂 ❤️. I can still vividly remember how we roll with each other then, cooking together in large pots as if we are hosting the entire village 😍😂. Fast forward to now that I am married to my own family. Guess what, I married another polygamous family 😂😂. I have been with them for 8 years now and I feel the same love and togetherness I have been enjoying about Christmas all the years I spent in my grandma's house.

I don't know about you but for me, nothing bonds family well like togetherness. In this case, we don't only stay together to Merry, dance, and go back to our respective states of residence but we have this family culture of a day with the family members. On this day, it's all about a review of how the year went. the struggles, the achievement, the challenges, the good news, and our plans for the next year after which, we end up the session with family prayers. Oh...yes, I brought this idea to my husband's family house, and trust me, it's been a welcome idea to the entire household.

In my own biological family, it's a tradition initiated by my mum after the demise of my Dad but it usually takes place just before the new year. So I made it happen in my husband's family within the 25th and 26th of December so I can have all the time to join my biological family as well.

This has been one of the best things I look forward to seeing every Christmas season, unfortunately...I am not gonna travel this year due to some reasons beyond my control at the moment 😉. The good thing is that everyone is already tuned in to this tradition and with or without me, I am sure it will hold perfectly.

Well it's indeed a beautiful thing to have a family get together at the end of the year and talk about life and all stuffs, I have experienced such before, a situation where we all come together to talk about our achievements over the year and many stuffs all in the company of fun and merriment...

The feeling is just divine and beautiful

You brought a beautiful idea to your husband´s family home and I believe they will always remember you even if you aren´t there to celebrate with them. This family togetherness is what makes me look forward to Christmas too but unfortunately this year, my siblings aren´t showing up. The reason would be stated in my post soon. 😥

This is true about Christmas, because there is always enough to share with others. The joy that comes with it makes it different from other seasons.
Thanks for sharing.

Like you, the best thing about Christmas fir me is the reunion. Bonding with family. I just feel like it's not about the season, food or anything else.

Its just getting to see each other again, alive and in health after a long year, making better memories and refilling on love.

Az you wouldn't make it this time, you'll make plans so it'll be bigger and better next year. You wouldn't want to miss that😊

My family also used to get together with the extended family every December but we have restricted it to every two years because of how expensive things are these days, I guess that's peculiar with the igbos. I actually look forward to those moments, it's one of the things that makes Christmas memorable

There is always this special joy that the heart experiences when we get together as family, sharing love and gifts. You are very right when you said nothing strengthens families bond like togetherness, the more we see each other, we have better opportunity to understand each other Better.

In my family the only day we unite and do things as one is the day of Christmas, the polygamous experience I have is tough. Sometimes I long to see Christmas because of the opportunity it gives us to laugh and love each other again...

The togetherness is what keeps the family together and makes the bond stronger, we all enjoy that togetherness and always wish it can happen twice a year and not just once 😂.

Everything about Christmas makes me happy. The union we share together with families and the love we share is priceless.
Just like you said,

nothing bonds family well like togetherness.

All because it's Christmas.

You are in Lagos enjoying a fair weather. It's super cold in Abeokuta. I might just start running back to Lagos for now.

I wonder why some people think that there's usually no love in polygamous families. Look at you now, enjoying love from both sides. Not that I want to have one, but the misconception is too common.

You clearly have a lt going on for you during this perios of the year. And from what I can see, it is all enjoyment. It is like it is your house I will come spend the holidays. I know very well that you will take care of me.

Better run back to Lagos oo
It's mild here...the cold is not the type that dry people..lol

Honestly, there is always a big misconception about polygamy..not all usually have issues though it's rare. I am just super lucky about mine not that issues doesn't arise but not a serious one that should draw people's attention.

Hehehe 😂... better branch in my house oo 😂...I will kill dog for your sake 😂...dog meat 🍖🥓🤣🤣🤣

I am going to board the next flight to Lagos now. This cold will not kill me...

Normally, there will be certain types of issues in polygamous families, but they are not things that love and understanding cannot handle. I am glad you found yourself in a happy home.

Dog? I don't think I have tasted dog meat before. It sounds so wierd, in fact.😂😂

Oh, sweet memories. When I was a child my family would celebrate the holidays in such a fashion. We would travel to the village to be with our extended families. There was always so much merriment. Great post you got here.
