What I Was Known For...

Beautiful day, my fellow Hiveans, It's good to have you again today in my blog; welcome!

Today's topic in HL community took me back the memory lane, brought back beautiful memories of me as a growing up child back then in my high school days. I had a mind travel and couldn't stop smiling at my activities then. Who could believe that those things I was popularly known for good will die off at that stage in my life? but it did... reflecting on that today gave me a quick lesson to implement on any of my child if the opportunity present itself.

If you have had a close contact with me, you will notice that I am social type. This started far back at my days in the primary school. My personality made a lot of people flow with me easily, I am always fun to be with and love socials alot. In as much as I don't joke with my academics, I also gave socials much attention, it makes me happy and I derive joy socializing with people on activities that I can. Talking about popular kids, everyone knew me as a news caster back then in my primary level. There was no occasion held by the school then that I wouldn't be called upon to prepare news based on the happenings around. This particular activity made me so much popular as I write news and read it so sound as if I studied mass communication and have worked in radio station for years, lolz. Well, this is not the main thing I want you to know about my popularity, come with me , let's review my high school days...

My days at high school became more interesting in terms of socials as I got engaged with dance group/drama group. I never knew I could dance until my friends influenced me to do so. I tried it and to my greatest chargrin, I was doing so great with dance. I remember leading our dance group during one of the school inter house celebration. I danced and danced and danced to the point that the chairman of the occasion noticed me , sprayed lots of money on me as the lead dancer and complemented me when he made a speech of vote of thanks to the congregation. Through the event, I gained so much popularity and people would always refer as Miss dancer instead my real name...it was fun!

As if that was all, I became the talk of the town in the school through the way I act drama. Aside our performances (drama group) during school event, we also got an invitation to act drama in an event outside school. We all got prepared to showcase our talent over there and inside the event, a young guy got pleased with the way I acted drama, conincidentaly, he knew one of my cousin brother and told him about getting me into movie industry. I was still a teenage then living with my grandmother, when my cousin brother visited and told my grandma about the movie industry stuff, my grandmother said and I quote "you want my daughter to be showing her nakedness in the TV for the world to see?" Hehehe....that was her thoughts about the news and being that I wasn't exposed then, I didn't have anything to say. Within me, I knew I was capable of acting but environment has a way of influencing people either negatively or positively.

Now, these are good skills I had back then but no one to nurture those skills. I only became popular on it, I reigned in my own time with it but nothing much came out when it was supposed to yield something tangible. This is why I said in the beginning of my article that I learnt a lesson through this memory as I would not let such happen to any of my kids. Children/teenage might signal a skill at early age and it becomes useful if attended to.

Finally to the last part of the question, I am no longer active in any of these skills I was popularly known for. I guess my parents wasn't sensitive enough to assist me develop those skills until I lost interest in all. The good thing is that I have learned from my childhood experience to always be sensitive to growing up child around me perhaps, I will be of great support to nurture his or her skill.

This post is in response to the #hivelearners community contest on the topic titled popular kid

That means you are super active in case of social things from that time. It's a very good quality of you. In case of acting many people are still sensitive and you also know why most of family don't inspire others in that case. But it's you skill and it will be always with you and help you in different ways .

Yes, most families especially Africans don't encourage dancing and understand them anyway...but at least encouraging some skills in children will be fine

That's one thing our parents failed to see in us
I have always said that once I noticed my children's talent that is what I will work on and I will never let it die like my parents let mine

Because talent can also become something big for someone

Wow, you were really a social butterfly back in high school, unlike the rest of us that hide from those social activities 😆 those skills tend to fade out over the years when you don't work on them, although it's safe to say that some part of those skills are still with you even to this day

It is no longer an hypothesis but a proven fact that you are one of the most socially active people I have ever known on hive blog.

But then I'm a little curious, are you sure you are not a mass communication student because i thought u were, what exactly did you study to have so much communicative skills? Because I'm sure if you were to venture into journalism or the broadcast industry you will be great.

I'm a little offended, for a sec I felt like questioning your grandmother for not allowing your talents go viral😂, you might have made a career out of it.

You could have been a good artist if Grandma had allowed you. Do you know what? My maternal grandmother till today warned us sternly not to marry from the East because she has the belief that they eat humans 😂😂 I guess that was her experience when she was still young and it grew with her till her old age.

We made her know things in the past aren't like today and that the world is more than civilized now but she isn't getting it.

The things their minds were fed on then have affected how they have viewed things today and it isn't like that. I hope this won't happen to your kids since you have gained more knowledge about a lot of things.
