What I've learnt today about parenting

avatar

The fact that I am not a perfect parent makes me pay adequate attention to new ideas concerning parenting. I never seize the opportunity to learn new things each time I am privileged to do so. Can I ever be a perfect parent? Of course not. Today's teachings in my church were another opportunity to add to my knowledge or perhaps another reminder for me as a parent. The teaching was obviously designed for parents, and it was derived from the word "FATHER."

From the teachings, "F" stands for
faith, "A" stands for availability, "T" stands for teaching, "H" stands for hardworking, "E" stands for example, and "R" stands for responsible.

From what I learned today, parents should first have faith in God, who gave the kids to them, and trust God completely in their parenting Journey.

Availability: giving the kids whatever they need at any point in time is not enough; being Available for them is, especially on their important days, such as graduation in school, matriculation, birthdays, and even at home. In our busy schedules, creating time for the kids matters a lot because when they grow, they will tell the story of whether you were always there for them or not, and this usually has a psychological impact on children.

Teaching: this is another important tip for parents. There are lots of things kids need to learn at every stage of their lives. There are morals, chores, culture, family tradition, and other vital things for them to learn. Their learning shouldn't end in school but should begin at home and at all times. Now, I am beginning to wonder when I last taught them about the scriptures. Like I said earlier, it's also a reminder for me as a parent.

Hardworking: parenting is far more than bringing a life into the world; we take responsibility for the new life right from the fetus to adulthood, and so expecting a rich uncle or aunt to take charge of our responsibility is an error. There should be no room for laziness, but always striving to meet the needs of the kids. This goes to both the man and the woman working hard always in order to do the needful.

Leading by example: you cannot be correcting the kids on a particular habit and they find you doing the same. Children pick up action more than spoken words. So even if you must do a particular thing that you do not want them to do, you mustn't do it in their presence.

Responsible: a responsible dad or mum shouldn't engage in domestic violence. The fighting that goes on in some homes has psychological effects on the children; however, they might grow to do the same. Living responsibly in every aspect of our lives is a good attribute every parent should possess.

These were the tips I learned today. It might not be new for many parents like me, but implementing it will go a long way in our parenting Journey.

I hope you got value like I did

Thanks for reading through.

It's very important that parents should show the children the right way to live by being that person first. By so doing the child will learn to do the same.

I really liked the way your church teaches about parenting. And I agree that children imitate everything from us their parents, we have to self-evaluate ourselves and be sincere when correcting our children.

And of course asking God to give us the wisdom to make them what God designed them to be.

Greetings a pleasure to read you✨🌸

So true. Most parents know this but the most difficult part is the application. There is no hard and fast rule in parenting.

A lot of things goes into parenting and we still learn everyday, that's why I am conscious thing I do around them.
Children pick up words as well as action that they see and hear, just like how my daughter started singing "sabi o ooo sabi o" I was shocked, because I don't sing that at home, so I guess it was at school and she's just two. 🤣

Today I have learned something new. Today I was able to know the meaning of FATHER. In fact, I didn't search it anytime.

One thing coming to my mind now. Does we create the meaning after creating a word or after meaning a word create.. which one? Do you know??

I think nothing is new for any parent but the fact is that we need a continual reminder for all these things.
We know them all but we are prone to neglect them after every short while. Then again we need to refreshen the determination.

Parenting is not an easy journey. I often find myself a culprit as if I am not doing things that I am supposed to do as a parent. So this post is a reminder to me as well. A source of inspiration and renewed determination.

Refreshen and determination is the key words here. An amazing reminder for all

Indeed every parent should consider these things (FATHER) to become better parents... And like you said there is no perfect parents, but considering and applying these little lessons will help raise an excellent human.

Yes, it shows you listened and learnt well. I love that part of availability and leading by example. Many parents including fathers are not always around to correct their children. Many too do not lead by example, they stay out late and their children even see them mistreat their mum. A good family is the one that honours God. Thanks for sharing

Wonderful tips! Leading by example is really important during the early stages of a kid lives as they tend to soak in what's happening around their environment. Words don't stick much but actions do like you've pointed out. Great and informative post :)
