When Life is Involved

IMG_20230830_141007.jpg

Let me start by saying that there's a thin line between life and death. Unlike a plant, which may whither and regenerate, human life has no such privilege.

About six years ago, I had an encounter with an asthmatic patient in the market. Her situation was an emergency, and at the same time, I left my 8-month-old baby at home with my sister to quickly get a few things we needed to prepare lunch. It was a tough decision for me to overlook the patient and rush back home to attend to my crying child and also prepare lunch for my family, but on a second thought, I decided to assist her, as I quickly reflected on how my late Dad always encouraged my siblings and me to be nice to people around us, irrespective of their tribes, religions, etc., as long as we were safe to render such help.

I had finished shopping for raw food and other edibles when I decided to walk into a cosmetic shop to buy my bathing soap. Behold, I saw the lady gasping for breath. She was with her inhaler but obviously losing breath gradually. You could hardly hear what she was saying. The owner of the store was pouring her water on her head when I arrived there, and he immediately pleaded that I drive her to the hospital, where she will be adequately attended to. I looked at the man and the asthmatic patient and was confused. It was an unprepared task, and I had a lot to catch up with at home, but when life is involved, everything else can wait. The lady is a stranger to me. I am not always comfortable with strangers, but I overlooked that and rendered the service.

On our way to a nearby hospital, the traffic was something else, and I was praying in my mind that the lady would continue to breathe until I arrived at the hospital. I was terrified when her breathing changed, and I couldn't help but keep horning so that other vehicles could give me space. Finally, we get to the hospital, and surprisingly, it took a long time to revive her. At this point, my family has called me several times to return home and do the needful. Since the asthmatic patient was already under doctors and nurses custody, I left the hospital immediately but returned the following day to check on her, but fortunately, I was told that she was well after some time and left home the same day.

She was unable to know who assisted her to the hospital, but my happiness is that she was saved through my little assistant, and that's what matters most.

The images are mine.

Thanks for reading through.

Your little assistance made such a big difference in her life. You basically saved her life.

Truly, not all heroes wear capes.

In my country there is a saying, well, I think it is a universal saying: “Do good and don't look at who you do it to,” and that is precisely what you applied. The world, life is a circle and good returns good. Nice gesture and great experience. Greetings.

Indeed, it is a life circle..no one knows how and when a good deed he or she did in the past will play back to her own advantage. That is how God repairs human

Humanity is the thing which is hard to find from human in recent days . You have done amazing task that day and you have done the right thing. As a human I believe we should try to help human when they need help.

Wow. When life is involved, other things can wait...I love that phrase. In whatever way we can do to help someone, not necessarily someone we know, we should help as long as it doesn't affect us. You did something humane and great. I'm sure she would be forever grateful because they would have explained to her how she got to the hospital.

Yea...she will be told even though she doesn't know who assisted her

Exactly. God rewards every good deed and we should only focus our expectations on Him and not humans.

Articles like this melt my heart. This is the way it is supposed to be.

Unfortunately, not everyone understands the importance of this kind of action.

The lady would definitely pray for the unknown person that saved her life.

That was really nice and brave of you choosing to save a life even though you had a little baby at home that needed your attention. That was highly commendable.

I have had an encounter with an asthmatic patient though mine was with a kid but one thing I realised from the experience was that you can't really predict when they will stop breathing. You took a big risk because knowing how horrible Lagos traffic can be and you were with an asthmatic patient whose condition was on predictable, I'm definitely sure at some point you felt terrified. I'm glad he made it because he was opportune to meet a selfless person.

Thanks for your contribution to humanity.
