The Bible teaches us that one true God created heaven and earth, and that from the very first verse God says that there is one God and that there is no other beside Him․ In the Old Testament God revealed Himself to the nation of Israel as the one living God who is different from the idols worshiped by other nations, and the rest of the Old Testament disparages polytheism, calling people to worship the true living God․

In the New Testament․ Jesus said that the most important commandment is to believe in one God and to love Him․ Christians believe there is one God, of whom three divine persons are simultaneously one and identical: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 48:16; John 14:16)․
