It Is Time...

I have been talking for a while about how my wife and I want to move off grid and start a homestead, well, the time is rapidly approaching when I am going to commit and pull the trigger! I have recently been doing a lot of research into properties that are within my price range and that I can afford to buy now. My wife has recently started a new job and we ae finally in the position where we can buy land now and then when the time comes, make the move.

Land Contract Purchase...

One of the main reasons I am doing so much research before buying is simply because I am buying sight unseen! I will be making my purchase from the information I can get from the internet and phone calls and let me tell you, this is not a move you want to screw up! The last thing you want to do is buy land and then find out that you have building restrictions or cannot have livestock! Calls to the local county offices are a must, as well as making sure there are no liens on the property. Imagine paying off a loan only to find out someone else hold the title! That would be disastrous!

Missouri, Kentucky, or Tennessee...

My focus has been on the three states of Missouri, Kentucky, and Tennessee. There are several reasons for this, first and foremost is the large communities of homesteaders and people that mind their own business, but a strong second is politics. I really want to move to Missouri as they recently were debating a law that makes gold and silver constitutionally legal tender no matter what, that tells you a lot about how people in that state think...

It Is Just That Time...

You may think me a fool for buying land without seeing it, but I do not want to be in a position where I need it and do not have it, then have it and do not need it. We currently live in the city on a very small lot. We have dogs, cats, chickens, and honey bees, and zero room. We want to have goats and possibly a pig and cow, and we just cannot do that here, legally or otherwise. For us, it is time to make that move. Maybe you have been thinking about doing the same and if so let me ask you...
