Rafael Urdaneta Centre Museum: exploring its first gallery. | Museo del Centro Rafael Urdaneta: un recorrido por su primera sala.

Gratos saludos tengan todos mis queridos amigos viajeros de todas partes del mundo, es un placer para mí saludarles en este lunes, inicio de semana, mostrándole una de las salas principales del Museo de Arte Centenario de Maracaibo.

A warm greeting to all my dear travelling friends from all over the world; it is a pleasure for me to greet you on this Monday, the start of the week, by showing you one of the main galleries at the Museo de Arte Centenario in Maracaibo.

El museo de Arte Centenario ubicado, justamente en la calle Carabobo del casco central e histórico de la ciudad de Maracaibo, también llega por nombre, el centro Rafael Urdaneta un espacio especial que busca resguardar patrimonio cultural e histórico importante de la ciudad de Maracaibo es el espacio propicio, para que podamos ir visitar, leer conocer cada una de las partes que han sido protagónicas de Maracaibo pues aquí podemos encontrar utensilios históricos de lugares empresas, así como también de personas que han influido de manera cultural a nuestra ciudad, realizando sus grandes aportes un espacio que había quedado totalmente en el olvido cerrado pero que ya ha vuelto a mostrarles a todos los marabinos su esencia.

The Centenario Art Museum, situated on Carabobo Street in the central and historic heart of the city of Maracaibo, is also known as the Rafael Urdaneta Centre a special venue dedicated to preserving the city’s important cultural and historical heritage. It is the ideal place for us to visit, explore and learn about each of the key elements that have shaped Maracaibo. Here, we can find historical artefacts from various places and organisations, as well as from individuals who have had a cultural influence on our city through their significant contributions. This space, which had been completely forgotten and closed, has now once again revealed its true essence to all the people of Maracaibo.

Justamente entrando hacia la derecha, podemos encontrar toda la vestimenta que utilizaba el último patiquín de la ciudad de Maracaibo, un hombre cuyo estilo era muy elegante y sofisticado, duró muchos años viviendo justamente en las cercanías de la plaza Baralt, en su pasado, fue campeón. de boxeo en peso, pluma y era reconocido como un hombre, el cual tenía una excelente lírica cantaba y expresaba unos lindos poemas, este falleció justamente el 29 de diciembre del 2025 a sus 94 años de edad, podemos ver la gran mayoría de las pertenencias de él como su vestimenta tensiómetro maletín entre otros, se dice que el hombre tenía mucho conocimiento acerca de la medicina empírica por lo que la gran mayoría de las personas recurrían a él para saber qué medicamento podrían tomar.

Just as you enter on the right, you can see all the clothes worn by Maracaibo’s last ‘patiquín’ a man whose style was very elegant and sophisticated. He lived for many years right near Plaza Baralt; in his younger days, he was a boxing champion in the featherweight division and was renowned as a man with an excellent way with words, who sang and recited beautiful poems. He passed away on 29 December 2025 at the age of 94. We can see the vast majority of his belongings here, such as his clothes, blood pressure monitor and briefcase, amongst other items. It is said that he had a great deal of knowledge about folk medicine, which is why most people turned to him to find out what medicine they should take.

Al lado de la vestimenta del patique, podemos encontrar las pertenencias de la líder wayu Luz Milixa, que falleció justamente también en diciembre, y ella fue la fundadora del mercado de las pulgas, y era una máxima representante de la cultura wayu en nuestra ciudad, podemos ver su perfumes sus batas, sus sombreros, entre otros también presentes en este museo cabe resaltar que este tipo de etnia, son personas mucho más trabajadoras que les gusta echar para adelante a diferencia de otra cultura indígena que está muy arraigada nuestra ciudad, ella era un principal líder para todos ellos.

Alongside the patique attire, we can find the belongings of the Wayuu leader Luz Milixa, who also passed away in December, She was the founder of the flea market and a leading representative of Wayuu culture in our city. We can see her perfumes, her robes and her hats, amongst other items also on display in this museum. It is worth noting that members of this ethnic group are much harder-working people who like to forge ahead, unlike another indigenous culture that is deeply rooted in our city; she was a key leader for all of them.

En esta sala, también podemos encontrar en la puerta en su parte superior la cruz de una de las torres principales de la iglesia Santa Bárbara o santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Inmaculada Concepción, ya que en el temblor que sufrió nuestra ciudad justamente en septiembre del 2025, esta cruz se cayó por completo y una de las pilas superiores también fue afectada, por lo que la cruz la cruz tuvo que haber sido reemplazada completamente ya esto está totalmente remodelado, pero decidieron preservar esta cruz, en este gran museo sin duda alguna un objeto religioso de gran valor histórico.

In this room, we can also see, at the top of the door, the cross from one of the main towers of the Church of Santa Bárbara, or the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, as during the earthquake that struck our city in September 2025, this cross fell completely and one of the upper columns was also damaged, so the cross would have had to be completely replaced – and this area has now been fully refurbished – but they decided to preserve this cross in this great museum; it is, without a doubt, a religious artefact of great historical value.

Ahora bien, justamente del lado izquierdo, podemos encontrar pertenencias de Mario Suárez, quién fue un cantor de música popular venezolana, y podemos ver sus trajes emblemáticos, este hombre son grandes aportes de música y cultura a nuestro país, Venezuela, así como también podemos ver reseñas, cuadros y pinturas de Luis Aparicio, tanto el padre como el hijo Luis Aparició Ortega y Luis Aparicio Montiel, así como también recuerdo de los Juegos Panamericanos, hay personas que realizan sus donaciones a este museo, los cuales tenían preservados para ellos, estos objetos de valores históricos y decidieron donarlo a este museo.

Now then, on the left-hand side, we can see items that belonged to Mario Suárez, who was a singer of Venezuelan popular music, and we can see his iconic costumes; this man made a huge contribution to the music and culture of our country, Venezuela. We can also see reviews, drawings and paintings by Luis Aparicio both the father and his sons, Luis Aparicio Ortega and Luis Aparicio Montiel as well as memorabilia from the Pan American Games. There are people who have donated items to this museum; they had been keeping these objects of historical value for themselves but decided to donate them to the museum.

Podemos ver un candelabro antiguo e historico de estilo colonial, fabricado en Bronce, así como también un reclinatorio Frances para realizar oraciones en la que anteriormente en épocas coloniales las personas se reclinaban a orar, podemos ver una urna o un recipiente recorativo plateado cuyo función era netamente decorativa e historico, esos también eran usados con tapas por lo cual se despega en su parte superior para guardar sobre entre otros siendo un elemento bastante sofisticado, así como piezas de madera totalmente decorativas.

We can see an antique, historic colonial-style candlestick, made of bronze, as well as a French kneeler for prayer, on which people used to kneel to pray during colonial times. We can also see a silver-plated urn or decorative vessel, the function of which was purely decorative and historical; these were also used with lids, which could be removed from the top to store items, amongst other things, making them quite sophisticated pieces, as well as entirely decorative wooden items.

Yo me he llegado, así como también se encuentran un aspinturas bastantes lindas y emblemáticas de nuestra ciudad, una de ellas que me encantó mucho fue de San Benito junto con los chimbangles, ya que sabemos que son patrimonios cultural de Venezuela, me encantó mucho como el pintor plasmó en su lienzo esta imagen tan bonita de tributo especial al santo negro San Benito, sin duda, una me fascinó, así como también podemos ver varios folletos para que las personas puedan formarse conocer mucho más de la vida de Mario Suárez y de la fundación de Maracaibo.

I’ve arrived, and there are also some rather lovely and iconic paintings of our city; one of them that I really loved was of San Benito alongside the chimbangles, as we know they are part of Venezuela’s cultural heritage, I was really taken with how the painter captured this beautiful image on his canvas as a special tribute to the black saint, San Benito; it certainly fascinated me. We can also see various leaflets so that people can learn much more about the life of Mario Suárez and the founding of Maracaibo.

Por último también podemos encontrar algunos utensilios del hotel Granada un sitio turístico bastante conocido anteriormente nuestra ciudad que ahorita se cuenta totalmente abandonado, me despido hasta una próxima oportunidad a mis queridos viajeros del mundo espero que esta publicación les haya permitido conocer mucho más de mi ciudad, espero les haya gustado esta publicación hasta pronto.

Finally, we can also find some items from the Hotel Granada, a once well known tourist attraction in our city that is now completely abandoned.
