'YOU CAN LEAVE ANY JOB THAT PAYS YOU LESS THAN $100 A MONTH FOR HIVE'

If you have a degree and a good command of the English language and you earn less than $100 doing a 9-5 job in Nigeria (or any part of the world) that sucks out all the energy and colour in your life, you can comfortably quit your job for hive.

I stumbled upon this post by @young-boss-karin which I found quite interesting. It talks about quitting an underpaying job for hive. She made a lot of interesting points and I would like to buttress a few.

It is quite sad that many people in this part of the world romanticize their jobs, even in situations that are totally unfavourable. There is no justification for working a job that pays you less than $100 for working 160 hours a month. Even in a third-world country like mine, that is equivalent to financial suicide.

YOU DO NOT VALUE YOUR TIME

Honestly, I do not blame you because we have all been in this boat before, especially in a country like ours where the average person is ready to do just about anything to survive. Most times 'anything' entails the wrong things.

Your time is your most valuable currency and it can easily be exchanged for any other currencies or anything that adds utility to your life. How you use it determines the outcome of your life.

If you are stuck in a job that doesn't pay you well or provide any opportunity for growth then you are completely wasting your time--life and in all honesty, there is no dignity in that. You are better off unemployed.

Early this year I asked my girlfriend to quit her day job for hive. I did not see any reason why she was working 160 hours a month for just $60 as a professional underwriter. It made no sense to me because at the end of each month she went home with nothing. All she earned was spent on her commute to work. So she was basically working for free.

She hesitated at first but finally, she agreed to quit and it was one of the best decisions she made. She joined the hive blockchain and grew exponentially. Also, she got called back by her previous employers and her salary was significantly increased. The high point for her was knowing that her time had value and that changed her orientation.

A BRAINWASHED WHITE-COLLAR SLAVE

Contrary to popular opinion, you don't need a white-collar job to earn money. Your only job on this planet is to add value to other people's lives in exchange for whatever currency you want.

When you think in terms of value, your mental scope begins to expand and you become susceptible to the opportunities around you, and then you begin to work on improving your capacity.

Many people never get to see what they can become because they are limited by the script society has given them. In most cases, this entails: getting a degree, getting a job, working till you are old and then retiring. Rarely do people think in terms of value. They assume that their Degree is a meal ticket.

Fortunately for me, I discovered hive while in college so I knew I had a shot at financial freedom if I played my cards right. Firstly, I live in a third-world country where the cost and standard of living aren't high as compared to other first-world countries.

Secondly, I saw this as a unique opportunity to develop aspects of creativity and interest. To put things into context, in the 5 years I will achieve all my financial goals, get my MBA, become a proficient web developer and so much more. This would not be possible if I was stuck in an underpaying job.

In conclusion, it is not reckless leaving a job that cannot take care of your needs for the prospect of something better, which in this case is hive. I know a lot of people who are full-time creators on the hive and they are comfortable enough to pursue other endeavours, extending their scope and generating long-term wealth.

Thanks for shedding a little more light on this topic. I don tire to explain.

Even a freelancer on Upwork earns more than $100 a month, so why slave for less. If one can comfortably earn less than $100 a month then their responsibility isn't significant. They can afford to quit and pursue other endeavours that will increase their value in the labour market if that's the path they truly want to follow.

Yup. I've become so entitled with my job demands. Nothing provides me with the amount of freedom and remuneration I need.

Yeah, nah.

Eventually you will milk this cow dry, if all you do is pull value out.

Those who extract the most value from hive aren't even from third world countries like mine.

Secondly, I don't plan to earn upvotes all my life is that's what you fear.

if all you do is pull value out.

I won't be getting value if I won't putting any. If you only think of value in terms of fiat/crypto, there isn't much of a conversation here...

Is it too much to ask to keep at least 10% (whatever the number may be), to power up to support others?

You pull out like 98%, talking about how to earn on HIVE.
At the very least that is poor taste.

I have over 6k pob stake I use in curating other creators;
Half of my hivepower delegated to the project I believe in;
Over 80% of my Leo stake delegated
I buy ecency points regularly to support my community, hive-naija, which is doing by the way.
50% of what I earn is staked,
I used the other 50% to reinvent or sell to cater for my needs and support the people who are depended on me (which includes two siblings getting to college)
You asking for 10%? Okay

You pull out like 98%, talking about how to earn on HIVE.

Okay. I will say if you think I am milking the system and not adding any value to the system, you can do any of the following:

  • stop supporting my content
  • report me
  • downvote my content.

Or, I can just ask you:

Rather than downvoting, I'd offer you more upvotes if you power up.

Honestly, I would rather have you not upvote any of my content, no offence. But I will take you on the 10% power-up challenge.

I appreciate the comments and if you find anything I post here good enough, a comment or two to further the discussion will be appreciated.

This post is everything and more. I wish my friends would read this. I know hive is not easy initially but with effort you'd eventually earn more than you did at a shitty job.

All I do is write and make videos here and I earn more than I did when I was slaving away for other people.

I have realised that many do not want to break bad habits or patterns, which is, unfortunately. I am not saying hive is everything but it can get you on the right foot.

All I do is write and make videos here and I earn more than I did when I was slaving away for other people.

I know right. Which makes it hard to comprehend why many are not keen on trying it out or sticking long enough with it.

If only most family would understand... The joy of every parent is that their children Is not just sitting at home even if sitting at home makes you more money than going out to work daily.

That is one of the reason why most youth would rather stay in an underpaid job just to please the family as avoid side talk😒😒

Lol they are just conditioned to a said pattern which makes it hard for them to understand this gig economy. Thankfully, my mum doesn't stress me about it. As long as I am not into fraud she is fine. The side talks usually come from neighbours.

This is such an eye-opener. Joining Hive for me was also a way for me to earn money while doing something that I love. This article really shows that we humans should adapt and research more into our world and learn the basics of internet and how to utilize it to their potential. Nowadays, crypto is the hot take, and we should do our best to learn more about it.

We should always have an eye for new opportunities. Crypto is giving a lot of people opportunities they probably would not have in their countries, opening them to a larger community of people where their skills can be utilized

it is a joy to see how much this space is helping people live the type of life they want. Hive has done more for most people than other crypto currencies I know

Honestly, I have thought about this over and over again but I am too afraid to even quit my job at this point. One of the major reasons is that I am a newbie here. My current job is draining and time-consuming, I wake up super early only to get home really late every blessed day save for Sundays. I am addicted to this 9-5 routine, mine is actually 8 am-7 pm. Hopefully, with time, I'd be brave enough to take risks like this.

Sometimes the thing you love might drain you but it nudges you in the direction you want to go. Coding isn't easy for me, most times I don't want to code but I know practising will get me to the level of proficiency I need--i want that.

The question is:

Is your job fulfilling? Is it bringing the best out of you? Are you adding value to people's lives?

If it ticks all these boxers I think you should stay (even when underpaid). However, a job that doesn't offer a sense of fulfillment, drains you physically and emotionally, and doesn't pay you well enough to cater to your needs is slavery.

I think you're right, Hive is better that any job that pay us less than $100 per month. On my country, many people are just starting to understand this reality.

I think one of the reasons people choose to go for a job more is because of the stability and also because they are scared of the unknown. Not very many people are aware of the possibility of earning online.

The truth is it will take sometime for people to come to the understanding that they do not have to follow the known standard, I know it took me a while to understand or even let myself explore. Once they do come to that understanding and take that step, It will be one of the best decisions they've made.

I just read your most recent post, which drew me to nosy here. 😉 You've got a great girl there with a good head on her shoulders.

It's funny, really, because I was literally just discussing with my daughter how different it is for everyone with regards Hive and any earning potential, depending on the cost of living in your country. Even the US is cheaper to live than Australia. Their wages are lower than ours, comparatively, but their cost of living is also lower. We once had some American visitors who were in awe of the wages here, then they were gobsmacked by the cost of food and fuel, which led to them understanding the high wages. So where some Americans have withdrawn a bit of Hive to help them through a tough situation, that same amount wouldn't go even that far here. So I may as well just build my account (and maybe buy the odd Splinterlands card 😜).

I've recently started to look at Hive more on the crypto currency side for investment earning potential, rather than just content earning. It's given me a new perspective. I recently learnt the term yield farming and realised we can already do that here and in Splinterlands. Delegations to curators and card rentals. Wins all around which keep the system flowing.

Oh she is a gem. My life has been a lot better since she came my way.

I wish most of my friends here had the luxuries of living in a third world country. I probably would have a lot more if I did not have some many people depending on me but nevertheless, that's my cross, and it would be over soon as my siblings are getting into college and would be able to cater for themselves. It isn't rosy here but you can live comfortably with $500 monthly.

That's the beautiful thing about hive--we can go at it from different angles and still enrich ourselves while adding value to the system.

I feel like Hive has been quite innovative in the way it has opened up opportunities in the third world. Not just for the earning potential, but the communication potential. It's opened my eyes to what life is really like in other countries, rather than just seeing it in one sided reports in the media. I'm glad you've taken up the opportunity, I've enjoyed your contributions to this system.
