As always, the dedicated and hard-working Admin/moderators of the Hive Learner's community have presented another interesting and educative contests for us to participate on.

I welcome you to my entry on the 60th (02) week of the Hive Learner's featured post, where I would be telling you about the possible outcome of too much freedom.

My View On Too Much Freedom

Freedom is one of the most celebrated and valued concepts in human society, as it is often associated with independence, autonomy, and individuality. However, too much freedom can also have negative consequences.

To start with, let's first define what we mean by freedom. I regard it as the ability to act, think, and express oneself without hindrance. It is a fundamental human right that is embedded in most constitutions and legal systems around the world.

However, there are limits to how much freedom an individual can have, and these limits are often determined by the social norms and values of a particular community.

Now, when we say "too much freedom," we are referring to situations where individuals have an excessive amount of freedom, either because there are no rules or because rules are not enforced. In such situations, individuals may abuse their freedom and engage in harmful behaviors that could negatively impact themselves or others.

For example, imagine a society where there are no traffic rules or speed limits. People can drive as fast as they want, whenever they want, and wherever they want. This would result in chaos and accidents, putting the lives of individuals at risk.

Therefore, too much freedom can be problematic if it leads to a breakdown of social norms and values and undermines the well-being of individuals and society as a whole.

Too much freedom could equally bring out some very useful behaviours from us like:

  • Creativity: When individuals are free to explore their interests without restriction, they can unleash their creativity and come up with innovative ideas. The more freedom people have, the more diverse and varied their ideas become, leading to an exciting and dynamic society.

  • Progress: Boundless freedom can also be a catalyst for progress. When individuals are free to pursue their ideas and dreams, they can drive change and push society forward. This can lead to advancements in science, technology, and culture that benefit us all.

But the downsides of too much freedom is very plenty and disastrous.

My View On The Effect Of Too Much Freedom
  • There Is Usually Decision Paralysis: When faced with endless choices, it can be difficult to make a decision. This can lead to analysis paralysis and a lack of productivity. With too much freedom, it's easy to get overwhelmed and not know where to start.

  • Unhealthy Habits: When there are no limitations, it's easy to indulge in unhealthy habits. For example, if you have unlimited free time, you might spend all day on the couch watching TV or scrolling through social media. Without restrictions, it's easy to slip into bad habits that can be difficult to break.

  • Lack Of Responsibility: With freedom comes responsibility. However, when there are no rules or expectations, it can be easy to shirk responsibility and avoid accountability. Without accountability, it's easy to let things slip and not take ownership of our actions.

  • Lack Of Structure: Freedom can be great, but it also means that there are no rules or guidelines in place. Without structure, it can be difficult to stay motivated and focused. A lack of structure can also lead to procrastination and a lack of progress.

Conclusion

It is important to recognize when your freedom is beginning to become detrimental to their wellbeing, and this can be achieved through self-reflection and seeking feedback from trusted friends and family members.

In summary, freedom can be good too but we mostly drive it's use negatively by taking too much advantage, reason why it needs to be curbed.

But is there truly something like complete freedom. I seriously doubt that.
