Welcome To Nigeria My Country

Are you talking about the Giant of Africa? Yes, you heard me right. Welcome to Nigeria the land of rich culture, vibrant people, and high cost of living. It's now a matter of "high prices to low earnings", and the people are even getting used to it.

You won't believe that in this tropical paradise where palm trees and other cash crops are in abundance, where petroleum is produced, and where Jollof rice reigns supreme, the struggle to make ends meet is not easy.

Imagine living in a country where the Government takes full charge of the economy, and makes sure that the inflation rate doesn't skyrocket. Sounds like a good dream, right? Welcome back to reality, you are in Nigeria, the closest time we would have gotten such governmental care in this country was in 2009-2010 (when President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua was in power).

The current situation of things is not very fair if you ask me. All we studied in our economics classes have now become useful in real life. Infact I now understand the concept of "scale of preference" better than while I was in school.

Citizens would have to strategize ways to stretch their naira to cover important stuffs, while also looking at some goodies that they wish they could cover, lol. The annoying part about these whole economical inflammation is the fact that the bills increases without warning. You would buy something today, and the next day the same amount of money won't be able to buy that thing anymore.

Unlike some other countries, Nigeria are large exporters of petroleum products. Infact, crude oil was recently discovered in my village here in Bayelsa state. But the price of fuel in this part of the world is alarming.

The inflation rate of petroleum products in this country has brought out the creativity in alot of Nigerians. We now see cases of generators and even cars using gas as their main source of powering their engines.

I worry for the future generation of this country, because nobody is saving their money again for future purposes, especially civil servants, lol. It's now a matter of survival, that's how bad the cost of living has been for a while now. 1 week after your pay day, and your account balance has gone back to 0.00 Naira, lol.

Personally, am still looking for other side hutsles to add to my career, because I have got big plans for the future. And just like me, they are lots of civil workers that have added many side hutsles to their careers. From entrepreneurs, to tech gurus, to freelance writers, the citizens of my nation are not sleeping, lol.

The rate of the Nigeria Naira to the United States Dollar is another huge challenge. $1 is equivalent to about 1200 Naira, which shows that the value of our local currency is very weak and valueless.

This got me thinking, what if I left this country and go somewhere else like the United States, I strongly believe that my work would generate more income and value than in my country.

Nevertheless, despite the high cost of living and bad governance, Nigerians still remain one of the most happy people in the world.

We laugh in the face of financial adversity, although we complain and lament, we still see ourselves as heroic survivals. So while our earnings may be playing hide and seek, our spirits remain undefeated. We deserve a glass toss, should we? Even if it's just water, lol.

Thanks for your time here.

Truly, Nigerians are very strong and resilient. They make light of situations, regardless of how bad it may seem.
Let's hope things really get better though
