Lucifer — The Graphic Novel

(Edited)

I'm not good at saying goodbyes, whether the nature of that involves people or things. While it dragged on and on, I've ignored Supernatural tv show for years at a time and now that it's finished, I can't get enough of it. A void begins anew. And I'm trying to fill that void with other biblical fantasy shows. Sounds like a toxic relationship, eh?

So I was watching Lucifer the past week. It's not a lousy show but quite cheesy and repetitive. Despite that I've binged it all week It's funny and the romantic portion of it calls to me. That's all caught up now. Phew!
But this show could be much more. It's superficial and does not follow it's source material at all, other than borrowing names of the characters and their supposed occupations. I've known about Lucifer graphic novel for a while as it derived from Sandman graphic novel by Gaiman (and I'm a fan of that).

The protagonist of this story is the devil, the fallen angel of heaven. He has a demon partner/servant Mazikeen and they both roam the earth. This bit matches with the show but I guess that's about it. While the show proceeds to become a cop thriller, romantic drama show, the graphic novel deals with abstract notions such as mythical realms, cosmic beings beyond the palpable, larger than life. The character, Lucifer Morningstar is also an omnipotent being, capable of shaping realities—very much unlike the protagonist of the tv show.

The story of Lucifer takes root in Sandman. The prince of hell leaves his abode, hell, for Los Angeles. And in the first issue of Lucifer standalone novel series, I see Lucifer on a journey to tear through fate and predestination. But an ancient power and a guardian angel of that power bars his way.

I like how similar Lucifer is to Sandman atmospherically. Its for mature readers of course with graphic violence and nudity but it can be pretty satisfying too if you're worried about the value it adds to your reading repertoire.

Looking at this conversation here, I chuckled! If (and that's a big if) all these myths were truly there, free will would be one of the most contradictory ideas indeed. Can you do anything that is not predetermined? If you do, is fate obsolete? and if you don't, why bother?
Even though I don't follow any religion or any belief, I'm fascinated by all the myths, lores they have to offer!

And this one here. Quite true, isn't it? Don't you feel haunted by the things you regret? I do. Even though I know when I committed the act, I was a different man, moved by different factors. The past just doesn't let you go. I also cannot wash away the last traces of resentment I have for people even from the school years! I know, sounds very unhealthy!
Yet... I can only hope I'm not alone on this wretched boat.

So far, Lucifer has not disappointed me. I will continue reading it.

I love the TV show, but haven't yet had a chance to read the comics. I think I have them digitally though! I'll need to check. If I do, I'll read up and we can chat. 😃

I understand.
But I think they are available as digital copies for you to buy if you don't mind reading on a screen.

Thanks for reading. :)
