One More Minute, One More Push Up - #LOH 306

Im no expert but I don't think there is a specific age for exercising. I think exercise can be part of our lives at almost every stage, but the type of exercise i believe should depend on the person's age and physical condition, age most especially. What works for a teenager may not necessarily be suitable for an elderly person, and even among young people, there are certain exercises that should only be done with proper supervision and that is where i think personal trainers come into play because we have to be very careful the type of exercise we do and to what extent we push ourselves.

For children, I think exercise should mostly be about staying active, having fun and developing coordination rather than pushing the body to its limits. As people grow older, they can gradually take on more challenging forms of exercise but when someone reaches an elderly age, the focus may need to shift toward activities that help maintain mobility and overall fitness without putting unnecessary strain on the body.

As for me, do I currently exercise? Yes, I do currently exercise. My routine is actually quite simple, I run every morning, and I have turned it into a little personal challenge for myself. Whatever amount of time I jogged the previous day, I try to add one more minute the next day. It might not sound like much, but over time those extra minutes begin to add up. I also do push ups, and I follow the same principle. Whatever number I managed to do the previous day, I try to add one more push up the next day. I like this approach because I am competing mainly with myself. I don't need to look at someone else and try to match what they are doing. I just need to be slightly better than I was yesterday.

Of course, I also think there has to be some common sense involved. Adding more every single day sounds great in theory, but the body also needs rest, and increasing exercise too quickly can lead to strain or injury. Progress doesn't always have to mean pushing harder. Sometimes you have to when to slow down and allow your body to recover. I try as much as possible to not push myself past my limit, im not in competition with anybody, ill progress slowly at my own pace.

One thing I have learned from exercising is that consistency is probably more important than trying to do something extreme. Running for a reasonable amount of time regularly is better than doing one huge workout and then abandoning exercise for weeks. In other words consistency is the key. I also like the mental side of it, their is something satisfying about waking up in the morning, getting outside and knowing that before the day has properly started, you have already done something productive for yourself.
