Balancing my academic life with other commitments

Balancing school life and other aspects of your life while in school is always one of the difficult things to do as a student, but this is also a good time management lesson that is always helpful, even when you are done with school. This is also one part of campus life that makes students derail a lot.

Because on campus, your parents or aunties are not there to tell you what to do and what not to do, so you have to learn how to use and manage your time wisely. Failure to do this might land you with bad results.

Back then in school, I had a lot of things that were always there to take my time, but one thing that really helped me was that I had it at the back of my mind that the first reason I came to campus was to study and that every other thing was secondary. I love music, so before I started school I used to go out with my friends to play at events, but in my year one second semester I found out that it was not really helping me focus, so I had to curtail it.

As much as I knew that studies were important, I also had to take church activities seriously because God is number one in everything, but I did not allow that to interfere with my academic activities. I pushed all church activities to weekends, most of the weekday rehearsals I did not attend, but I would always attend any rehearsal fixed during weekends and I always made sure that I attended Sunday service.

For other social activities and gatherings, I weighed the impact and importance of the event, if it was not important I would not attend. I also learned to say no to some invitations, and that was always helpful. For all the campus fellowship, I only attended occasionally, especially if it was on weekends. These always helped me manage and balance my academic life with other commitments.

I've always been the first thing first type.

Life in campus is another distraction on it's own, but then, one has to keep reminding oneself why you were there in the first place, it becomes easy to navigate.

I love the fact you never forget the reason why you were there. Thanks for sharing.
