He Really Loves His Balls

avatar

I Know, I know. Made you look, though.

So we finally bought little Ricky this tube thing with a central area that is full of plastic balls. Weirdly, it's been in the living room for a week, but he's mostly been ignoring it. Today we moved it to a different part of the room, and suddenly it's the best thing ever.

Finally, something to keep him occupied

I really wish that I understood what is going through a baby's head sometimes. He goes from extremely upset and angry to laughing and having a great time in a matter of seconds. It has been a real challenge trying to keep him happy while feeling completely drained of energy myself. When I find something that he really enjoys to do, it is a huge plus.

Anything that can distract him for 5 minutes is fine by me. (Emphasis on the 5 minutes)

I believe that I like this tunnel...

Yeah, I most definitely like this tunnel.

It's funny looking at these photos out of context with the room that this thing is in. It looks massive! In reality the whole thing fits into a small corner. It's basically just a middle area with a tube coming off of one side. I think I would have loved having one of these as a little baby.

It makes me think back to all the forts we used to build as kids. You know, where you get every blanket in the house (to your parents' chagrin) and make tents and tunnels using chairs, tables, or anything else that you can find to use as support structures. Me and my little brother would do this, sometimes with a friend that would stay the night. We'd get under the tent with a flashlight and tell ghost stories.

This is the look he gets when he's just about had enough.

As per usual, we got about 10 minutes of super excited fun out of the tunnel today. To be fair, that's a good 5 minutes more than most activities that we do with him. I like to think that he wants to switch tasks quickly because he's highly intelligent. So let's just go with that!

Out like a light in 10 seconds flat.

One of the coolest things about being a baby is that you can go to sleep instantaneously. It's like, "Okay, I'm tired. See ya ZZZzzzzz"

I can't complain, though. This is pretty much the only time of the day that I can get anything done. I have basically been the primary caregiver for the baby while Amanda works. Funny enough, I thought I was getting the long end of the stick on this deal, but taking care of a baby is friggin' hard work! But I am really enjoying my time with the little monster.

Haha, that is really awesome. I am glad that you found something to entertain him even if it is only for a short period of time! I don't have much first hand experience, but you do and from what I have heard it gets easier! Just enjoy this time while you can. They grow up too fast.

Hey, I'll take whatever I can get! 5 minutes, 10 minutes, everything is helpful. Like right now, I'm sitting on the carpet typing this while prying his little fingers off of the laptop screen. He is relentless!

Everyone keeps mentioning the growing up too fast thing. I am trying really hard to just enjoy it and be in the moment. Not always easy, but I get it!

Ahahahhahha what a catchy title lol. He looks like a happy angel in the pictures. Funny that you mentioned forts, I used to do that with my sister. So much fun gosh.
The little Ricky is growing so much, that's very nice to watch

lol.. I almost didn't write that title, but though, ah why not.

Yeah, he is growing super fast. We are going to have to get him a new stroller soon as well! His feet are already hanging off the edge. It's easy to spend a lot of money on stuff for these little guys only for them to grow out if it super fast.

Yep, the forts are some of the best memories of my childhood. So much fun back then!

Hi Rick, great pics, you really enjoy being a dad.
Been there, over 2 decades ago this is me, with my youngest one. Climbing a mountain with him. 12 years later he was running rings around me, and almost had to carry me up the same mountain because I ran out of breath, lol. That was in Waterton National Park, Canada.

Awesome photo! I could never get little Ricky to ride in one of these. He gets really upset and struggles the whole time. It was so bad that we ended up either sending it back or gifting it to someone else. He definitely wouldn't sleep in it!

Right now we are dealing with teething pain. He is letting out these blood curdling screams out of nowhere. I hope it gets better soon!

Mine used to fall asleep as soon as he got carried in that pouch. I thought it may have been the heartbeat he could hear. But come to think of it, it might be inherited: he is half Native, and getting carried in a papoose is the usual way. It was also quite handy going abroad, because you don't lug a stroller along (but we did borrow one in Vienna). But it would be impossible to climb mountains with a stroller, lol!
