Wacky Front Porch Art Here in Los Angeles

Touring an artist community

Here in San Pedro, California we were thinking about moving into an artist community. I happened across this piece situated in front of one of the live in studios.

There is so much weirdness going on with it that I though it would a fun subject for a Hive post. I don't know anything about the artist, but I sure enjoyed looking at this piece.

What on God's Earth am I looking at

Above is a view of the entire piece. I don't know what the artist is smoking, but this is pretty trippy. There is all manner of madness happening.

They have made some little baby goggles out of what looks to be a loose leaf tea infuser. They've welded little spiderweb patterns all over the entire piece. The baby seems to have some kind of antennas and wires coming out of its head.

The seemingly random details add to the weirdness of this piece. First, you see all of the sea creatures welded on here and there. But then you look a little closer....

That's right. there's a dinosaur skeleton. Why not?

While we are at it, why not some airplanes. Makes perfect sense. This piece is a true stream of consciousness.

I'm really not sure that I fully understand what is happening here. I guess it is all open to interpretation.

Oh wait, I just noticed the little army man about to fire on the fuses of what looks to be little bombs. Interesting!

I think those are flattened bottle caps

This kid is either part alien, or has been through some serious body modding. He looks like he could do some real damage with those leg spikes.

Even the base is weird. If you look closely, you can see that the whole thing is being supported by tiny elephants. Isn't that how the flat earth is supported? I think I read that somewhere. Sounds legit - and very scientific.

Below is a photo of the common area outside of the studios where the piece is located. I am guessing that it belongs to the studio that has the entrance just to the right of it.

Amanda and I were considering moving into one of these studios but we ended up deciding against it. The owner is a really nice lady who was kind enough to show us around.

The spaces are great, but I'll have to admit. I was really dreading the idea of moving! Just thinking about it makes me want to crawl into bed and sleep for about a week!

Note: This was mostly a re-post from during the height of the pandemic, but it didn't get many viewers. I thought this thing was hilarious and would be nice to get more views. Thanks for looking!

Yeah, ultimately it wasn't for us but the people there were pretty cool. I probably would have moved in had I been in my early 20s and single. lol!

The piece of art is both scary and interesting, lol. I like all the elements but equally I'm scared by the way the kid has his head turned to the right and wears sunglasses. However, I'm sure that it represents a whole story that can be explained by each of its elements :)

Very interesting. That is definitely a wacky piece of art. It's a bit unnerving, but also kind of cool. I can feel some steampunk elements maybe a little bit. I don't blame you dreading the idea of moving! It's a ton of work!

Yeah, unnerving is a good way to describe it. I like weird stuff like this though.

As far as moving, I think we're pretty happy where we are at the moment. Especially having a 2 year old which makes everything 10x harder!

Nice photography, yeah, the art looks kinda weird but I guess the artist only illustrated what they were feeling

Haha, yeah it made me wonder what exactly the artist was feeling. Seems like a random flow of uncontrolled creativity to me.

The cover photo caught my attention but I don't really know what to feel about it or maybe it's mixed emotions. It looked interesting but scary for me lol. Well, what can I expect from an artist community, right? What else did you see, where there other uncanny art pieces in the area?

Yeah, I said it was a repost in the post itself. I don't even know what to say, this was my first downvote 'attack' on Hive in the years I have posted on here. I never thought it would be you, though.

Perhaps you could have removed 18 in rewards, instead of 90-100, since that is all the first one got.

That's not really how curation works, you post something once and that post 2 years ago may have gotten you more than just the rewards, not counting what they'd be now having remained staked, etc. You get the chance to followers, interactions, possible autovotes, tips, etc from posts, reposting not only has the chance to get the same voters to vote on duplicate content but also opens up a gray area to what people think they can get away with if we only removed x $ of rewards compared to the last one, etc. It's best to just not accept rewards if you want to cross-post things for the visibility/attention/etc so it's a universal rule rather than depending on each case.

Usually we would've warned you first but an account of your age and reputation should be aware by now.

It's ok, I shouldn't have asked you to rationalize it. I was just upset at the time, as is human. You, of course have the prerogative to use your stake in whatever way that you wish.

Usually we would've warned you first but an account of your age and reputation should be aware by now.

I would like to add though, that there is no consensus that reposts are unacceptable. I've seen plenty of reposts over the years from large stakeholders. If you don't like it, you have the power to remove those rewards which you have done - and are rightfully able to do.

Since I now know that I cannot repost without having you remove the rewards, I am aware that it isn't worth wasting my time doing so. So really the intended result is achieved.

There's some value that can be had in reposts with declined/forfeited rewards, I don't deny that. There'd be even more said value and less time wasted if we had front-ends that generated adrevenue they'd share with authors/consumers. It's just not something we should accept for the way hive rewards work to be allowed.

If you find other reposts feel free to alert us in our discord and we'll look into it. I don't think people accept reposts to be rewarded in general, could be they just didn't read your post (the bigger voters) or that last part, when I first checked it out I thought that part had been edited in but didn't make much sense for me to check if you had edited it in after posting/the big voters had cast their votes cause it wouldn't have changed much.

Downvotes? Whatever! I like it, and I had never seen the "original" post before, myself - so taking any of my puny upvote away is not really right. One cannot upvote a post that is a couple of years old, but one can certainly comment on that particular post, which I will do right now. You can reply to me from the old post, and we see how that goes. Maybe think of that next time, because recent comments can be voted on within the same 7 day time frame!
In the meantime, I am sharing this on my Twitter account, which is embedded on my Visionary Art Website
I will also share it on Facebook and pass it onto the Jon Beinart Group (Merlbourne, Australia Art Gallery) - I am sure he would like that, it would be right up his alley!

Thanks, @thermoplastic! They took nearly $100 from this post. I've been schooled to not repost. I don't really mind them, but others with enough stake to cancel the rewards do not think they deserve rewarding, for various reasons; most of which make enough sense to me. But most importantly as I've pointed out before, if you have control of the stake, it is your prerogative to do as you wish with it.
