GETTING WASTED IN FRONT OF THE SCREEN

The major method of passing time and alleviating boredom to an extent is by going online to view some timelines, stay updated and chill at the same time.

We are in the world in which everything is modernized and technology has taken the lead with its promising evolutionary nature. Worthy of note is the aspect of entertainment. We no longer need to worry ourselves by going to a concert no more when we're busy. We can stay at home, multitask by turning on the TV to watch the concert live, then do any other thing we have to do.

There are some times however when we stay longer than anticipated in front of our screens probably due to the show is very interesting to watch and you do not want to miss any part of it, not even for a second.

I am no different, at times, I leave the most important thing I have to do just to watch a Trevor Noah show, or a Fluffy show. Sometimes, it may be a movie, anime or rewatching an Eminem show or diss (i never get tired of watching how Eminem roasted MGK).

In many occasions, I stay in front of my screen for about 4 to 6 hours. Gradually, I became addicted to a good extent making it very difficult to stop. It started to feel like I have no self discipline, I obviously didn't cause' if had, I would not be addicted to things like that.

Some times, I do not know when to stop and I tend keep watching till night. I even take my phone any where I go, to the restroom, kitchen, bathroom for playing music, and even when I am washing clothes. Sometimes, I will stop for a minute, the I'll immediately remember that I have not done an online task for the day, Off I go again. After I finish fe tasks, youtube will be my companion for the remaining time. goodness I had to look for a way to stop.

During those times when I find it difficult to stop even when I talk to myself, it began to affect my health. I do not go out in the night because the strong light from cars and bikes are blinding to my eyes. It always feels like I'm looking directly at the sun any time a ray of a vehicle's light enters my eye.
One way I use to know when it is enough is that my body sends a signal through a good headache. I called the headache good because it saved me. When I start feeling the headache, it's either I go away from my screen or the headache will continue to persist until forever. Worst is that, even if I sleep or take paracetamol, the headache will not go, instead the ache will come in another form and continue to persist until i go away from the screen, read a book then sleep.

This is a very serious issue in the society today, and I do not see any way of regulating it or stopping it willingly, well, except for people who have ultimate self control.

Setting alarms and using the minimalist launcher helped me to a extent to regulate it. The minimalist launcher is an android launcher that removes every icon from your screen and gives you a list of your apps without any icon. Its background is black, then the text is white.

It helped me to an extent though but well, it did not prevented me from doing the deed.

One tip I have to give other people to reduce their screentime is to do something that do not have to do with the Internet. Always have physical works, the one that will keep you very busy. If you are a trader, you can set your trades, then continue with the physical work. Also, read offline books, it will help you with reducing your screentime.

I don't know about the minimalist launcher, but I guess I'll check it out.

We're living in a time when digital have taken over and got us addicted, we need drastic measures to stay of them and truly setting can help us know when we've had enough or should indulge in other activities.
