Sand Dollars

(Edited)

I got a couple of flat sea urchin skeletons from my sister-in-law a few months ago that I've been wanting to light paint. Tonight I finally did it. I just discovered they're called sand dollars, not because of their worth but because of their flatness. Sand paper was already taken I guess.

I scanned them from behind with a green laser line (made indigo/blue due to white balance) and from the front with a purple gelled light. Sometimes the other way arround. Both specimens were being held with a horizontal pole glued to the center and on a few shots I used smoke.

It's interesting to see that apparently there are hexagonal structures on the inside made visible because the material is slightly translucent, especially with the laser.
