I welcome you to my blog. No doubt many of us passed through the four walls of a university, and some of us are still in the process. Some were lucky to come from a home where finances weren't really a problem, while some of us have to work to support ourselves and the little we get from home. It's not really easy on the child of an average man, especially in an economy as harsh as this.

It's no new story; ever since the president elect took over power, the masses have seen hell with no light at the end of the tunnel as it's from one bill passed in favor of the politicians to another without the masses in mind. The masses suffer, and we look for ways to survive. We look for ways to provide ourselves with the support we need to keep us going.

Life is not always a bed of roses, especially when you come from a family that's not financially buoyant. You have to do the little you can to support yourself and your siblings. In my 100 level, my dad complained about not having enough money to cover everyone's needs: my kid sister's school fee has to be paid, my elder sister needs money for her project, and my younger brother is about to sit for the West Africa Examination Council (WEAC), I also needed money for my house rent.

With needs here and there and just a little income, I felt for him and told him to attend to the needs of others while I looked for a way to take care of myself; maybe later on he could do mine. He reluctantly agreed to that, and I applied for a job at a hotel as a bar attendant. Luckily, I got the job, and the job almost tampered with my studies. I told the management I was a student and would only work the night shift; they agreed.

I hardly sleep at night. I leave work for my room as early as possible so as to meet up with classes, but most times I end up not learning anything in class as I end up sleeping all through the lectures. Friends understood, so whenever a lecturer asks, they tell him or her I am not feeling well. Those who work to sponsor themselves in school deserve some accolades. I did it for a few months , raised my rent and stopped because I saw what it was doing to my studies.

There is no time to study; you work all night and sleep all day. In order to prepare for another long night, there was no time for the main purpose, i left home. I was just trying to force it. When they said it is difficult to serve two masters at the same time, I doubted the saying, but I believed it after this: you must serve one more than the other. It's not easy to combine school and work.

Te doy la bienvenida a mi blog. Sin duda, muchos de nosotros pasamos por las cuatro paredes de una universidad, y algunos todavía estamos en el proceso. Algunos tuvimos la suerte de venir de un hogar donde las finanzas no eran realmente un problema, mientras que algunos de nosotros tenemos que trabajar para mantenernos a nosotros mismos y lo poco que recibimos de casa. No es realmente fácil para el hijo de un hombre promedio, especialmente en una economía tan dura como esta.

No es una historia nueva; desde que el presidente electo asumió el poder, las masas han visto un infierno sin luz al final del túnel, ya que es de un proyecto de ley aprobado a favor de los políticos a otro sin las masas en mente. Las masas sufren y buscamos formas de sobrevivir. Buscamos formas de proporcionarnos el apoyo que necesitamos para seguir adelante.

La vida no siempre es un lecho de rosas, especialmente cuando vienes de una familia que no es económicamente boyante. Tienes que hacer lo poco que puedas para mantenerte a ti y a tus hermanos. En mi nivel 100, mi papá se quejó de no tener suficiente dinero para cubrir las necesidades de todos: la cuota escolar de mi hermana menor debe pagarse, mi hermana mayor necesita dinero para su proyecto y mi hermano menor está a punto de presentarse al Consejo Examinador de África Occidental (WEAC), también necesitaba dinero para el alquiler de mi casa.

Con necesidades aquí y allá y solo un poco de ingresos, lo compadecí y le dije que atendiera las necesidades de los demás mientras yo buscaba la manera de cuidarme; tal vez más adelante podría hacer el mío. Él accedió a regañadientes y yo solicité un trabajo en un hotel como asistente de bar. Afortunadamente, conseguí el trabajo, y el trabajo casi arruinó mis estudios. Le dije a la gerencia que era estudiante y que solo trabajaría en el turno de noche; ellos estan de acuerdo.

Apenas duermo por la noche. Salgo del trabajo a mi habitación lo más temprano posible para reunirme con las clases, pero la mayoría de las veces termino sin aprender nada en clase y termino durmiendo durante todas las conferencias. Los amigos entendieron, así que cada vez que un profesor pregunta, le dicen que no me siento bien. Aquellos que trabajan para autofinanciarse en la escuela merecen algunos elogios. Lo hice durante unos meses, subí mi alquiler y paré porque vi lo que estaba haciendo con mis estudios.

No hay tiempo para estudiar; trabajas toda la noche y duermes todo el día. Para prepararme para otra larga noche, no había tiempo para el propósito principal, salí de casa. Solo estaba tratando de forzarlo. Cuando dijeron que es difícil servir a dos señores al mismo tiempo, dudé del dicho, pero lo creí después de esto: hay que servir a uno más que al otro. No es fácil combinar la escuela y el trabajo.
