JANUARY TRANSFER WINNERS.

It seems easy to pick Chelsea because of their massive player investment, but that doesn't necessarily amount to a successful transfer window.

A successful window is usually based on three indices: "what is our problem", "how do we tackle our problem" and "who do we get to tackle our problem".

So yes, Chelsea got tons of players in, last summer and still continued their raid in this winter transfer window. Chelsea's over-crowding of most positions and their hesitancy in signing a proper striker(an important area of need), gives them a low rating as far as the above three indices I mentioned is concerned. It's simply a project in it's infancy.

UNITED AND ARSENAL,THE WINNERS.

Manchester United on the other hand saw a need to beef up the striking position, with their current first-choice striker, Anthony Martial, usually not far away from an injury and they sensibly went for the Burnley man,Wout Weghorst, taking him on loan.

Also, a crucially important player to the way they play Christian Eriksen went out injured recently and they immediately swung into action and got a great replacement in Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Europen giants, Bayern Munich. That is a smart move! Ten Hag has been correcting the errors of past player recruitment, one must admit.

So United got players that can do a great job immediate and ofcourse they would be willing to do some shopping to continue to rebuild by the summer.

Arsenal knew they had two pivotal positions to fill– a winger and a defensive midfielder(with the recent injury to Elneny keeping him out for a while as he has just undergone a knee surgery). Also more calculated followers of the club knew that, there was an urgent need for a left-footed centre-back.

They went for a proven EPL performer in Leandro Trossard from Brighton, when they missed out on Mudryk, who Chelsea snapped up. They also went for a stop-gap signing in Jorginho for the defensive midfield slot. Ofcourse it's no secret they already have an agreement with West Ham's captain, Declan Rice, to sign him in this summer. So in Jorginho, Thomas Partey can be afforded some much needed rest especially as he can be somewhat prone to injuries.

BREAK-DOWN

So summarily, the Dutch,Wout Weghorst for Manchester United has huge footballing experience. A Dutch national team player, a record goal scorer for Wolfsburg, and scoring well in the clubs before. When his 6foot 6 frame first arrived England as a player for Burnley in 2022, he quickly set a record as the best presser in the 2nd half of the EPL season. He averaged 48.7 presses per 90 minutes during his 20 Premier League appearances for the Clarets which brought two goals.

So he's the typical Ten Hag kind of striker, he puts in a good shift each time, occupies the defenders, with his movement and physicality. His game has improved over the years and in United he has better players around him than he's ever had– this brings out the best in a player. He has already opened his United goal account. So that's a decent deputy to Martial.

Marcel Sabitzer is such a hardworking box to box midfielder, known for his fitness and his special ability with set-pieces. He brings with him the mentality of a champion, coming from Bayern and former captain of Leipzig. He is a bold goal-scoring midfielder, who can play deeper and still get goals regularly. A very ardent football follower acquaintance of mine, who I trust, declared,"But mark my words, United will be much better with Sabitzer than they were with Erisken, Bruno[Fernandes]is about to have his best period." That goes to show you the quality Manchester United just brought in, so needless to be surprised he was pushed straight into the starting 11 yesterday and he scored for United against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup win. So someone calls him the "stabilizer", a well-rounded player.

As for Arsenal, they have gotten two players with massive experience in the EPL. Trossard is one that reminds people of the legendary Santi Cazorla because he's so comfortable with both feet unlike any in the team now. By the way, apart from the left wing, he can play just behind the striker(infact he says he prefers that role).

Jorginho, need I say more? That's a trojan on the field an old war-horse with a massive footballing brain. He has the Arsenal kind of intricate passing as his natural gifting. A Champions and Europa league winner and a winner of the Euros with Italy amongst a host others. He's also a leader whether it was at Napoli, his national team or Chelsea(having being their vice-captain for years now). He can regularly deputise for Partey at least in the Europa League, which quite frankly isn't Arsenal’s major focus this season.

I can't forget another new addition to Arsenal, this January transfer window– the 22-year-old centre-back, Jakub Kiwior from Spezia. He's got fantastic ball control and has an exceptional passing technique. A regular for his former club and even for his country– he played all Poland's matches in the just concluded World Cup. If you know Arsenal well, you know Gabriel Magalhães was direly in need of this kind of competition(at least from our point of view) and Arteta was genius with this buy. Gabriel might very well loose his starting shirt soon if he doesn't improve on his calmness and passing. Jakub is so good on the ball, that he can play as a defensive midfielder too.

ULTIMATE WINNER

Arsenal! Are you looking at my antecedents and accusing me of being emotional with this? If I'm found guilty, I'm glad to be guilty on this.

Arsenal my pick of them all.

Chelsea's President just gave Potter a lot of work to do, most of the players signed have never played in the EPL before and it might take a little while for them to adjust to the new system.

Arsenal did a great job recruiting new players but I don't think signing Jorginho was a good decision but I make be wrong, let's see how things go for the rest of the season.

Hello nwannem, nice to see ya, as always.
Well, that's Potter's job,he will be relishing the challenge, as he particularly loves to build things. Ofcourse a rebuild takes time and it's on the news that Boehly is giving him time. I continue to welcome Chelsea fans to "trust the process", having mocked at the Arsenal rebuild they will taste it themselves.

On Jorginho, no p, you are a regular on my posts, so you can attest to their veracity on the Arsenal course. I don't do let's wait and see because, I already see. Thanks and regards you @pappyelblanco for your support here.
