This is my response to @hive-naija's theme for the week on Cryptocurrency Security and you can also participate in this so we can all learn together and know of ways we can all keep our wallets and assets safe, away from the prying eyes. You can read about the rules and also the post made here

INTRODUCTION:

Cryptocurrency has been making waves for a long time now and just as we have those kicking against it, we still have those who massively adopt it. In the midst of the success stories recorded by the cryptocurrency world, there would always be those who want to exploit it to the detriment of others. We have investors and traders in addition to many people who now wants to learn the art of gaining more on cryptocurrency and these are the people more susceptible to crypto scams and attacks.

When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable and most people already know the benefits of crypto world that's why they would do anything to rip others off.

Here is how to secure yourself against hackers.

Avoid Phishing Sites:

In a bid to avoid stories that touch and compromise your portfolio, try and avoid any pishing site. Some of them give you fake coins as airdrop and I have them even in my IM Token wallet. The moment you want to redeem and trade it, they link you to another site with Chinese words inscribed. Never click on anything.

Phishing Site, this is another way people get hacked and even robbed of their hard earned tokens. It leaves their wallet compromised and this gives permission to hackers to lay hands on your funds. Protect yourself by avoiding these pishing sites that gives Airdrop to you that you already know you didn't participate in.

They always create a fake website that looks like an original and this is how I protect myself from them. You have to be certain the URL is correct. Look before your URL and there you will see a padlock sign, the moment you don't see a padlock sign before your URL page just know it's not a valid site and that's how I get myself off the hook of these potential hackers.

There are Fake Applications as well:

Make sure you download your application from a reliable source, either your iOS or your Playstore. There are some fake application even on Playstore and to be very sure of which one to go for, you would have to get the correct website and from the site get a direction to your preferred download platform depending on your gadget. Downloading a fake application leaves your tokens to risk of being hacked and stolen and this is another way I avoid the hackers and protect myself.

Make sure you check a verified website for the token you wish you buy and download the app and follow the link from their verified website as explained earlier. Be sure you can see the padlock before the URL address.

Stop Using on Any Site or Link/Safely Store.

Another way that I protect myself from these hackers or this scam is not using my password on just any site. Write down your password and change it from time to time to avoid these issues. These hackers make use of millions of combinations just to guess and access your wallet which is why it is important to make use of password that includes alphabets, numbers and special characters. Keep your password safe, away from prying eyes because a lot of people have been losing their funds lately due to these hackers.

Don't input or use your passwords or seed phrase on just any site. It could be costly.

Thank you for your time.
