Liverpool Can't Stop.

It's hard to stop this Liverpool side and they continued where they left off against Arsenal after a comprehensive 4-0, to record another 4-0 hammering of Southampton. It was a one-sided affair as Liverpool coasted to another win to close down Chelsea at the top of the league.

Jota scored twice and should have easily gotten his hat-trick if not for indecision and lack of luck, and Thiago with Virgil Van Dijk completed the 4-0 thumping of Southampton. Liverpool are giving Chelsea a hot chase for the title as well as Manchester City in the frame.

Southampton should have gotten an early lead as early as the 10th second if not for the alertness and the ready head of Virgil Van Dijk who headed it for a corner kick.

Jota should have scored in the 2nd minute after he broke away and with Mane and Salah on both sides, he opted to go alone rather than find them and he wasted that early chance. The ball was still kept in play and Liverpool dented any hope for Southampton with an early blow in the 3rd minute after Mane picked out Robertson whose effort into the box was poked home by Jota who registered his 11th goal in 22 starts for Liverpool.

The first 5 minutes of the game was fast pace for Liverpool as they wanted to exert their dominance. Despite the early miss, Jota atoned for it with a lovely team goal.

Mane thought he had scored the second in the 12th minute after a lovely Robertson's free-kick delivery into the box which Mane scores but he was flagged for offside. Jota later got his second goal of the game in the 32nd minute after Salah broke through. He exchanged a pass with Henderson before Salah flashed the ball across the face of the goal before Jota was there again to tap in a simple finish. It was all about positioning for Jota and he buried it, 2-0.

It wasn't long after, Thiago struck as his beautiful strike got deflected into the back of the net but it was credited to him since his effort was on target initially.

Armstrong was the guilty party for Southampton as he wasted quite a few chances that could have given his side hope. Armstrong was presented with a chance to reduce the deficit just before halftime but he couldn't beat Alisson despite being with the advantage. The corner kick was taken and this led to a swift counterattack from Liverpool with Salah leading the charge. With Jota and Mane waiting for him he still failed to find them as the effort went begging.

Still in control of the game, in the 52nd minute, Alexander Arnold's corner-kick delivery was smashed home with a right-footed strike inside the box by Virgil Van Dijk to complete the 4-0 thumping.

Southampton couldn't get anything from the game even with another brilliant chance that came for Armstrong in the 54th minute. He wasted it yet again after Tella's low cross came to him. Kanoute stopped his effort and still, the rebound was blocked off for a corner kick.

It was a game suited for Liverpool and they produced in devastating effect to win the game without any doubt.
