All Good Things Must Come To an End

All things must come to an end and that's how it was with our snowless winter. Boy it sure was nice while it lasted. Well at least they had warned us for about a good week that we were going to get hammered with loads of snow and bitter cold temperatures. I got to hand it to them because they got it 100% right this time.

Good Lord it is coming down by the bucketfuls, why just look at it!!! Those are snow flakes the size of geese feathers!

They even went as far as to put us under a winter weather advisory!

I have to say that I have learned that Southerners love to complain about the winter weather!

Well sure enough if you look right there in the green part of the grass you can clearly see some accumulation of the white stuff. More than we have had for over a year!!

Talk about your dangerously freezing cold temperatures, I did not dare go outside to take the photographs. I did not want to risk frostbite, hypothermia nor overexposure to the cold so I took the photos from inside my house for safety sake! when it comes to these storms of the century one can never be too cautious :)

You can see here that the temperature had already plunged down to 30° f. Of course that is 0 C for our metric friends! Now that happens to be 23° more than the seven degrees it is in Michigan at that same time. Better get the extra blankets out!

I saw reports about Alberta Canada asking residents to scale back their electrical use because the cold temperatures are putting such a strain on the electrical grid. I wonder how it's going to be able to manage once the majority of the people switch to electric vehicles when apparently they can't manage while yet most people are driving fossil fuel vehicles. Some things just make you go hmm…

Now some may say well Paul of course the ground is warm and the snow is not going to stick, but what about the overpasses and bridges and things like your deck that are not on the ground. Ok that would be right as you can see the snow is piling right up on the deck!

Since we drive a diesel we were not going to be putting any load on the electrical system, so we decided to motor on over to Roanoke and check out a restaurant I wanted to try for some time. Every time I've went past there I've noticed it is very busy so I'd like to think everyone can't be wrong.

This was our first time trying the “Great 611 Steak Company”.

The great 611 was a train that served the Roanoke area hence this Steakhouse has an extensively train-themed interior complete with a large model train that runs above the four rows of salad bar offerings lol.

Usually taking good photographs is Paramount in my mind when I plan to do a post about an experience. However, this time the vibe was so inviting and the food was just enchanting that I would totally forget to get a shot until I was halfway done with the plate.

I ordered the smallest steak they had because I knew I was going to fill up on the huge salad bar! Just the taco part of the salad bar was enough to fill me up. I lost count of the tacos that I made after four or five. In addition they had these delectable hot dinner rolls with honey butter that were to die for. Of course they are unlimited and I know I had at least four of those. Needless to say, I was happy that I had decided to go with the smallest steak.

They said we might get a "flurry" yesterday, but I never saw one flake. Fortunately, since I work at home, I don't worry about it anymore. You are pretty funny about it though. Thing is, when you live in a place that doesn't have much snow, if you have some that sticks to the road, nearly nobody knows how to drive safely in it. LOL !!

Sounds like you enjoyed your new-found restaurant. I can't even remember the last time I went to a buffet, but I used to love them.

Tacos and macaroni? For some reason that made me laugh.

Sure when the tacos and macaroni are free, I am going back for seconds (and thirds!)🤣
