Blue Skies and Sadness on a Tree Tuesday
It is hard to remember disease affects not only humans or animals, but trees as well. I had been hearing for a while that certain pine trees have been suffering from disease recently. According to this interesting article it is worse for non native species like Scotch pines. Sadly I saw this playing out in plain sight today.
I drove someone up to the hospital today for some tests. The grounds are beautifully maintained and are home for many trees.
Now on this pine there is some browning in places, but not too bad.
This one a little worse.
This is what the needles look like. I am not sure what kind of pine it is...
Because my truck is large, I dont like to fight for close spots. So after I dropped off my friend, I parked a ways out. Of course they forgot to bring their phone! That just is incredible to me. I would just about forget to get dressed before going outside as to forget my phone. So I had to stand around and keep an eye out for them. No way I was waiting in the building!
These are having a bad time of it..
Sadly this one lost the fight. That is the bittersweet nature of our world, there is so much beauty, yet it is surrounded by misery and suffering. Seems with life, there is always some good with the bad, and some bad with the good. All I know to do is to try and enjoy the little pleasures that may come along and hope for the best.

The pines got hit hard last year and this year! I was devastated, I always thought they were indestructible!
My pine tree from my my Michigan property started showing signs last year. I was sick about it, you know how I love my collsction of trees and plants. I brought it to my nursery guy, his name is Mike, and he told me what it was and how to fix it.
It got worse and had dead spots with no pattern.
Long story, short, it is coming back, but it took overva year to see. I agree to enjoy the everyday pleasures and dont take anything for granted. I hope they are able to save some of those trees! Happy #TreeTuesday!
Hi, Paul! @oldguyphotos
The way life is these days, one cannot take anything for granted!
Oh no, this is sad. Poor one that didn't make it; must be feeling so alone.
Such a beautiful truth you have spoken here. There is power in making this acceptance and consciously living out our times with this awareness.
Thank you for noticing the trees and showing them some empathy. They'll bloom again.
There is a pine beetle here in Ca. that's running rampant and killing forrests of them. Once infested the tree needs to be cut and burned before emergance of the next gen. or it will spread to nearby trees. Not easy or feasible to do for forrests. Normaly the trees would "sap them out" but under drought conditions the trees do not have enough fluids to do this.
Oh yeah we had a similar thing with the Emerald Ash Borer here. Really wreaked havoc!
That's terrible about the tree disease. I've read multiple stories similar to this from different areas. I saw a show on TV in the last year or so how some other type of tree that is native here in our state is taking a beating in the forests from something that was brought in "somewhere" from "somewhere else". Obviously I don't remember the details, but I did think it was sad.
Yeah sadly that is usually the case. Happened here especially in the Great Lakes!
