Good Food Makes for a Beautifully Sublime Sunday

Been hot here for a week straight. I am so cheap I hate to run the AC so it makes sleeping a bit of a challenge. However, my pineapples are not complaining one bit lol! :)

20220724_141041.jpg

Really windy today. Here is my feeble attempt to catch it. FAIL! Well the flag that you can not really see is flapping like nuts! The branches were swaying and dancing, but in the pic seems still as a cemetery!

The Beautiful Sunday and Sublime Sunday tags are some of my faves! I want to thank @ace108 for running the beautiful Sunday tag every week and keeping such detailed stats and supporting the accounts. Also, a shout out to @c0ff33a for the sublime Sunday tag where your random Sunday posts are always welcome!

Well today was all about food and flooring. Let me tell ya, the food is a lot more fun than the flooring lol.

20220724_152707.jpg

I had a hankering for some sushi. Since I have been working on the house to get it ready for sale, I have been living on ramen and chili. Some days I switch it around to chili and ramen. You know, they say variety is the spice of life and all that.

I simmer it for 20 minutes keeping it covered and not stirring it at all.

20220724_152714.jpg

Once it cools down, I cut in some rice vinegar.

20220724_153122.jpg

I use a good amount of vinegar. Between a quarter and a half a cup at least. This is how it looks after.

20220724_153258.jpg

In the meantime, let's make the stuffing of the roll :)

20220724_152927.jpg

Add some celery and onions...

20220724_153622.jpg

A nice dab of Duke's mayo

20220724_153659.jpg

Combine

20220724_153828.jpg

Slices of cream cheese ( YUM )

20220724_154015.jpg

I bought some of these Ambrosia Gold's. Wow are they sweet! Like dessert. Less crunchy than a Honey Crisp, but way sweeter!

20220724_152808.jpg

Grab your nori... I always buy the gold.

20220724_152740.jpg

Rough side up.

20220724_154326.jpg

Cover the nori well.

20220724_154457.jpg

Bravery test! Now with all the confidence of a master sushi chef, grab an end of the nori and flip it over. Easy peasy!

20220724_154530.jpg

Add some tuna mixture...

20220724_154630.jpg

Now add cream cheese slices and apple slices...

20220724_155010.jpg

Start by holding in the mix and partially rolling.

20220724_155042.jpg

Now a little further. I like to stop several times and tighten the mat to keep the roll tight and firm.

20220724_155101.jpg

Complete the roll and retighten. Remember the mat is your friend. Use it often to keep the roll firm.

20220724_155147.jpg

I like to start cutting in the middle...

20220724_155218.jpg

I find it best to rinse and leave the blade wet between cuts.

20220724_155417.jpg

I make a simple sauce with chili garlic

20220724_155600.jpg

20220724_155723.jpg

And of course soy...

20220724_155609.jpg

So combined it looks like this...

20220724_155753.jpg

I drizzle some of the sauce over the rolls and on the plate as well.

20220724_160040.jpg

Perfect bite size.

Have a good week ahead!

Very well done! Do you know about Temakizushi?

Yes!! I like to do it that way when the whole family gets together!

That’s fun, isn’t it? It wouldn’t make sense to do by yourself or with two people, but when the whole family gets together, that’s perfect.

How about wasabi roulette?

NOOOOO! Not a chance! :) Some people go overboard!

Yeah, it can get dangerous. It’s funny when you’re not the person who finds the wasabi, but like everything in life, when you’re the unfortunate person, it suddenly isn’t very funny anymore.

No I had never heard about Temakizushi before. From what I read just now, apparently it is popular as a party food where the filling ingredients are laid out and the guests can make their own sushi rolls! That would be a total hit as a party treat. Fun and people can choose what they would like to have. I really like that and thanks for letting me know about it!

Yeah, it’s a fun way to sit around a table with friends, try different kinds of sushi, and have drinks. It’s like making your own mini-burrito, but with sushi. You just cut the nori into squares and put it in the middle of the table so that anyone can make a cone shaped role in their hand at any time. Often, too, there will be some kind of yakiniku filling for those who aren’t wild about fish.

I have never made sushi.

I have never eaten sushi either.

All of the ingredients you used are things I would eat otherwise. I thought it was neat that you were making tuna salad to put in it. LOL..... It does make me curious how the flavor of tuna salad goes with apples and cream cheese.

Looks like you did a fine job of it though.

Oh it is a treat! The flavors are good to me but one can use what you please. It is fun to experiment with different combinations! 😀

That rice doesn't look like the short-grain Japanese rice though it said short-grain but who cares.
I'll eat it.

It is about half as long as our normal white rice. Very what I call sticky as well. Really grips onto the nori.

If this day trading gig doesn't work out, I feel strongly that you could open a sushi shop! Looks awesome! I know how much you love sushi!

The combo sounds nice, although I have not had that particular one. I like that you can mix and match whatever tickles your fancy.

It is a good idea but I am afraid I might eat all the profits. Seems to me that sushi is a perfect hot weather treat. I agree I subscribe to the throw in what you want to the roll. No right way to do it.

You make it look so easy. I've never made sushi myself and now I'm interested. I never knew to put cream cheese in there, looks delicious.

A little technique is required with the mat and practice makes perfect over time. I'm still attempting to perfect my burrito folding techniques 😀

It is really fun to play around with different fillings. They are of course great tutorials on YouTube. I am just a sushi hack, but I love it none the less :)
