Harbor Freight Tools - Worth It or Not???

I have been cutting a lot of flooring, and have been running through saw blades. Instead of always buying new, I decided to try sharpening some of my used blades. I had researched on YouTube and found a lot of guys like the saw sharpener from Harbor Freight. I know I have had a negative impression of Harbor Freight for the longest time. However, that was not at all based on any actual experience.

They have a lot of stuff at Harbor Freight, but one thing they don't have is Makita, DeWalt or Milwaukee. However, maybe what they have will still be able to get the job done.

As always a special thanks to @dswigle for making Market Friday so much fun every week!

I found the sharpener and decided to give it a try. Seems to get the job done...

They do have a good selection of their own brand of tools.

20220711_174919.jpg

Now I have always been keenly aware of the difference of quality between tools. Yet I am planning on buying these once I move for working on the new house.

20220711_175138.jpg

You can stack two of them!

20220711_175150.jpg

I also think there is a distinct difference in the need for top quality tools between the DIYer and the professional 5 days a week contractor. For example if you are a DIYer, you may use your cordless drill only once a month, whereas a contractors' bread and butter depends on the quality of that tool.

20220711_175105.jpg

Perhaps the DIYer could get by with a Ryobi yet the pro is more suited to the DeWalt.

20220711_174810.jpg

Now I want to be clear, if you are only a DIYer and enjoy buying DeWalt tools for the quality, that is wonderful. Nothing in the least wrong with that.

I really would love these US General tool boxes! It is true: I love them, but I don't need them!

20220711_175300.jpg

They look good, they feel good, and they function well too!

20220711_175252.jpg

3500 bucks is still a whole heap of money, but it sure beats spending over 14 grand on Snap On! YIKES!!!

20220711_175743.jpg

They even sell solar panels!

20220711_180059.jpg

Plus power stations too!!!

20220711_180115.jpg

I am going to pick up one of these pin nailers once I watch a review or two. Can only lose 25 bucks if it is junk!

So if you ever shopped at Harbor Freight, let me know what you think...

The scaffold RULES and is ultra handy in so many situations. I have used it numerous times since getting it. Harbor Freight is a craps shoot, some things are quality enough and others are pure garbage. It's hard to know what will be what without using and abusing them.

Yeah I see some things are not cheap enough against the name brand to gamble it as well. Thanks for the info on the scaffold!

I like Harbor Freight, for the most part... I'd describe myself as a bit of a "convert" from thinking of them as a seller of "cheap Chinese crap." For your basic run-of-the-mill stuff, the price is hard to beat. If I were running a precision machine shop or cabinetry shop, I'd look elsewhere... but for the basics, they are great and reasonable.

I have one of their two-wheeler dollies that I've been beating the crap out of since using it to haul piles of limestone rocks for a wall when I lives in Texas in the late 1990s, and it's still going great. I have one of their rotary tools (Like a Dremel drill) that I use to drill holes in rocks... no complaints.

I hope the blade sharpener works out for you; looks like it won't take a whole lot of refurbished blades for it to be worthwhile.

Good to hear. The low prices usually make it worth it for me to take the gamble. I have bought a pressure washer and the sharpener and I am happy to say so far so good 😃

Thanks for the Harbor Freight review! I am with @flemingfarm regarding them. I think they have things that work great and then they have some cheap junk that I cannot believe they sell. Still, that can be said about most everything we sell in any of the stores.

There is no denying that you get what you pay for - for the most part, but, it is true, that most don't need the tool for more than occasional use. So why spend up? There are some things that have been bought for one-time use. Do I need to spend more?

I have to agree that your savings ways probably have saved your purse, but, I bet you buy more just because they are cheap and someday you might use them! :) Thanks for being part of #MarketFriay!

MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through by their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact of that is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

You have a good point, they is a compulsion to buy just because it is cheap. Much like a buffet and eating too much because its paid for already!

I like the better brands, but I will buy any kind. Of course, I don't do things constantly where I use tools these days, so they normally don't get extreme use and most anything does ok. I guess it all depends on what it is and how long I want it to last. I have lots of tools. It is always nice to have what you need on hand right when you need it.

Yes and Harbor Freight would be perfect for the occasional DIYer like you describe. Some of the basic stuff like screwdrivers are dirt cheap but still functional I bet.
