How To Fix Pesky Eves

avatar

So I thought a post dealing with pesky elves was apropos for the season!!!

No!

I didnt mean elves I meant EAVES!!!

Yes well now the first order of business is to call someone out to clean your eaves and install gutter guards. I know I am the OldGuy, cheap through and through. The money saved DIYing it on a gutter guard install is quite small compared to the horror of falling off! I got gutter guards and still had a buildup right here!

You will need a strong wet vac. This 6 horsepower wet vac by Ridgid fits the bill perfectly.

A decent ladder is a good bet too. Like they say bigger is better, so this 8ft Werner fiberglass will do the job. It is light weight yet still plenty strong.

Now this is where the magic happens! A solid vacuum pipe that is shaped like a shepherd's crook is key! This will give you reach as well and strength to really drag along the gutter and suck out the bad stuff! They got them on Amazon for about $35 bucks https://amzn.to/3FHlIlA

My eves are way up there because my house has 10 foot ceilings in the inside. So I used all the extra extension pipes and was able to stay on the ground!

I was able to get right up there and clean out that plant!!! With the extensions I was able to keep my feet on the ground, but it does make it somewhat cumbersome to handle the length. The weight was not too bad, just the unbending length made it unwieldy.

I thought showing it next to a standard porch light might put it into perspective how long it actually is.

Now just add a couple of pumpkins to the steps and call it a job well done!

Above all else, be sure to treat your elves properly!

What a great job! Don't the gutter guard cover the complete gutter? That is why I couldn't understand why they needed to be cleaned out. I guess I thought that was the whole point of them, or perhaps it is only to help with it so it won't be a big job?

Those plastic pieces look huge and a little more than awkward to handle, sort of like the bigger powerwashers that take superman to handle. My hat is off to you, you are a regular DIY kind of guy.

I am a IDY kind of guy not by choice sadly, but by necessity. I would much rather, were I ever to have the means, call someone to do the job for me LOL. Maybe someday when I hot that big lottery payout!

(Edited)

Is that what you are calling it? Well, I hope you get your share of it. I'm sure you will do fine then.

This is a great idea. I wonder how strong those wet vacs suction get on that long tube? Good enough to suck up the dry leaves and probably the wet ones too. Hopefully that'll save your back a little too in the end.

Yeah it did a good job. I got a video I will put up in a few days that will show it better in action lol.

That looks like a great tool and no ladders ?.... sounds a lot safer !

That makes sense too about handling it with it being so long. Your shoulders or neck might fuss for a few days.... or maybe not.
