Let This be a Warning To You

I wish I never had to write this post.

I like to write happy posts and am not a fan of drama. I like to share recipes that I think are tasty or sometimes some flower photography, or perhaps even a personal tale from my life. Now maybe I am being a “Chicken Little” Boomer by thinking that the sky is falling. Perhaps this will all work out and have a happy ending. I certainly hope that is the case, and if it is I will be the first one to write another post letting you know.

My money is stuck at Ionomy.

I made my first deposit way back in November of 2020. Since that time I have bought and sold various coins, and I have deposited and withdrawn funds many times without a hitch. So last week I deposited some Raven coin and some Hive Backed Dollars without a second thought. On March 12th, I was able to trade them for some Doge and BNB just like always. There was no problem until I decided to withdraw my Doge and BNB.

An email was generated by @Ionomy saying that the transaction was awaiting verification, which I immediately did. However for the first time ever, the transactions were greyed out and the coins were never deposited to my Coinbase wallet.

I sent @Ionomy a support ticket which they replied that they received and that they would have an answer within 24 hours. Now that several days have passed and I've yet to receive any word from @Ionomy, I fear my funds will remain stuck there. In the greater scheme of things $500 is not a lot of money. However $500 is a lot of money to me, especially because I have never been a large earner on Hive and it takes a good bit of writing for me to earn $500.

What now?

I plan to follow up with more emails and hope for the best. Although having been involved in the equity markets for over 30 years, I am a total noob when it comes to crypto markets. However I have bought and sold a few coins in my time, so if I am mistaken on any part of my issue, I would be happy to be educated. If the fault lies on my end, I will happily write a post talking about that.

I hope this gets sorted out for you sooner rather than later. I know first hand how stressful this type of thing can be. I got a similar amount of money stuck on Crypto Dot Com and, although, as you say, not a huge amount to some if was a sigificant amount to me.

I don't know anything about ionomy but hopefully this will just turn out to be a bit of a blip and you'll get your money back soon.

Sorry you suffered a loss as well. I would steer clear of Ionomy as more people have come forward having problems with them too.

Ohhhhh Nooooooo.... That is NOT good.

When I started reading this post I was just sure you were setting us up for some bit of humor instead.

Of course you know that I know less than nothing about those things. I do hope that it eventually works out. $500 is a lot to me!

The worst part is that Ionomy was the last easy way for people in the US to sell their Hive.

I hope this get sorted out for you. This was one I was looking at when even Bittrex went out of Singapore.
I think all those operating here has to comply with stricter rules. When I moved out of Bittrex to Coinbase, each of the transactions require me to sort of verify and tell where the funds are from but luckily all went through. It's these not a lot but still good amount that is irritating.

Coinbase is great for us here too, but they dont deal in Hive here. Ionomy was an easy way to trade Hive.

Yes, I think we lost all the exchanges that has Hive here.
Last time, there was still Blocktrades to convert Hive to BTC/ETH directly in Coinbase but we are kind of lost nowadays.

Good luck getting that back. I quit using them after I lost funds there. Try SimpleSwap next time

So you can sell Hive easy on SimpleSwap?

Thanks for the help.

I wish I would've seen this post sooner :-/

I currently have ~ $1,500 stuck in @ionomy. A human won't even reply to my support tickets.

Did they eventually release your funds or was it stolen?

Here's a screenshot of my frozen withdrawal for those that want some proof:

They never replied. The greyed transfers never arrived. The only good thing was I was able to buy Hive with the remaining funds that I still had on Ionomy. Fortunately I was then able to send the Hive to my Hive wallet with no issues.

I was glad that I always send a test amount whenever transferring funds. I'm very sorry that you have so much tied up in a gray transfer. I felt my amounts were not worth putting much effort into retrieving them besides writing them. If you have funds in any coins still on Ionomy, I would suggest buying Hive and trying to get that out to your high wallet. Best of luck @fulltimegeek.

BTW I was able to use https://simpleswap.io/ with no problems to sell my Hive.
