Like It Could Have Been Me!
A shot of the lake lot. Oh I must be thinning out some of the trees, coz I can see the water now, just barely lol.
So I am a fan and have listened to the Drew and Mike Show since they ruled the airwaves in Detroit starting in the 1990's. Now in podcast form and like many shows, they have long running jokes that might not make much sense to a first time listener. One such bit is what I will call "Like it could have been me". Essentially the background is whenever something tragic happens, one tries to link themselves into it regardless how causal or distant the link actually is. For example, say a home burns down somewhere in the city of Detroit. Now say I also reside in said city, so after there was mention of the tragedy, I could explain that I too live in Detroit so "like it could have been me!".
I sure got more to do though!
I know this is a crazy long explanation, but I think it will help to explain my choice of title for this post. You see I have a ""It Could Have Been Me" story to share that happened today!
The leaves are so deep a guy could almost lose his saw!
I have been working on clearing this lake lot in order to build someday hopefully sooner than later, but my body is not sure it is as on board as my brain! See I have to fall the trees, then cut up the trunks and limbs and chip the small stuff. Well yesterday I was working on the left side of my lot and today I was working on the right side...
This is my chipper from where the widow maker happened.
As I was gassing up my chipper, I heard a familiar and unmistakable sound. You see as a tree is about to fall, it usually makes some version of a snap, crackle, and pop! However, if you are in the crowded woods full of dead and leaning trees, and not in the active process of falling a tree, it is NOT something you want to hear!
Instinctively I looked up in time to see this "widow maker" happen. A widow make can be thought of as a human mousetrap of sorts. There was a hell of a lot of weight being only supported by some bark and rotten wood hung up on another tree. If it breaks and rolls it can pin you fast. Of course if you are under it when she breaks, it's all she wrote.
Once it was safely down, I took a shot of the bark/rotten wood that had somehow held the trunk up!
There was not much holding wood keeping that standing as you can see right through the inside of that bad boy!
The funny thing about it is that is exactly where I was working 24 hours ago. Plus yesterday it was breezy and today had only a slight breeze. Why did it fall today and not yesterday when I was right there? Who knows, but like it could have been me!

Thank goodness you know what it sounded like when a tree is about to fall. Yesterday it just loosened it up enough and then it was its time to come down. It was just helping with all the clearing that needed to be done. 😜
BTY. Have you heard anything from Denise lately? I really miss seeing her here. I hope she is well.
Sadly I have not heard from her. I miss seeing her here as well. I like to think she has been on an exciting cruise, but I did think she would check in for Christmas coz she loves it so.
Thank you for letting me know. The longer she is away the more concerned I become. She is such a delightful woman and friend to so many of us here.

That's kinda crazy how you were over there the windy day before and it didn't fall. Good... but crazy and what are the chances you would be out at the lot when it DID fall. Could have been you ! ack.... glad it wasn't !
I like seeing the photos of the lot and down to the lake.
