Making Things Nice(r)

Happy Sepia Saturday

Before getting into the meat and potatoes of my post, I wanted to put up a sepia shot that I took yesterday. I plan to do a separate post on our travels to obtain a good deal on a purchase, but for now, this endeavor took us all the way to Raleigh, North Carolina. Since moving to the foothills area of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Southwest Virginia about a year ago, I have become accustomed to seeing mountains in nearly every direction. Not only that, I have become accustomed to the roads near home always going up or down a steep hill and usually turning sharply either left or right at the same time. Our excursion to Raleigh led us through the Piedmont area of South Central Virginia which is flat and void of mountains. This shot was taken while returning home. If you look closely you can see some mountains in the far-off distance.

Making do...

All my life, I feel like I've been making do. I don't feel that this is a complaint, I am just merely stating a fact. See if something worked it was good, and if it was good it was good enough. I purposely never thought about the advantages of "better” because “better" usually costs extra.

Sure I might splurge now and again on something special like a tool to do a certain job, but the idea of just spending money on a creature comfort was blasphemy. However, now that I am getting older by the day, I feel more at ease about spending a few bucks on a treat.

This wireless mouse and keyboard is a perfect example of such a treat. What is nice about it is that it will enable me to do my work from either sitting at my desk, or laying on my bed with my feet up. Talk about making things nicer, this is going to spoil me.

So far I am impressed with how smooth both the keyboard and the mouse work. In the past I have not had good luck with wireless devices but that was ancient history and it seems that things have improved. That being said this was not a super inexpensive model, although I was being true to my cheap ass nature and bought the open box model which allowed me to save over 50%.

I have never seen a mouse like that before with all those buttons on the side.

For some reason, having wireless hasn't been a big deal to me. I didn't try to avoid it, but the things I had were not wireless and I didn't care mostly. When I moved to this house and finally got service back, I did go with wireless, only because a time or two I had desired to move my computer (PC), but was pretty much regulated to being close to wherever the cable came in unless I was going to have the cable company come and run hookups to various places so I would have choices and could change on a whim. Finally, it had caught up with me, so I went wireless. Since then of course, I have acquired a labtop, so the rest as they say is history.

One thing though, when I replaced my last PC, yes, for some reason I still like it better for doing long-term playing, it came with a wireless mouse and keyboard. Interestingly, the keyboard seemed to go forever without running down it's battery, but the house used them up more frequently. Batteries, I don't like using things that require me to buy and throw away lots of batteries. In the last month or two, when my mouse ran down once again, I took the battery out and put the wireless mouse away and pulled my wired one back out and plugged it right in. For now and am done with that and when this keyboard polishes off the batteries that are in it, I will be hooking the wired keyboard back up.

I totally understand having all the wireless things if you are going to be computering in bed. Now all you need if you don't have one already is one of those rolling tables like they use to put people's meals on in the hospital....LOL.....

That must have been one heck of a price/savings on that thing if it was worth a long road trip to get.

Oh.... and the willingness to treat yourself a little more as you age, I am totally into that for myself.

Ah, my fellow frugal friend, I am so happy to see that you are treating yo'self! So much of what you say, especially the making do part resonates with me. That said, it;s nice to see you splurging a bit, even at a discount, on things that will make your workflow a bit more enjoyable.

I love my purple wireless mouse lol!

That sepia shot was quite lovely btw😊
