My Christmas cactus is starting to act like the major big box stores such as Lowes and Walmart in that it is jumping the gun as far as the holidays are concerned! Usually it starts blooming early around Thanksgiving but this year it is not even going to wait that long lol.

I have had this Sony 90mm Macro 2.8 lens now for about a month. Now I pride myself in being thrifty and that if I decide to spend good money on anything, I damn sure better use it - a lot! Funny thing was the few times I have used the lens, I was mainly using it as a 90mm prime and not doing much macro work with it. So I thought my cactus was giving me the perfect opportunity to put a few clicks on it.

I always am amazed at how complex and beautiful things are close up.

I would estimate it about 50% in full blooms at the moment. It should be a real firecracker for Thanksgiving. Normally it blooms through till the New Year and I hope it does as well this year.

I had it set out on the porch all summer. I think it really enjoyed all of that Southern sunshine. Much like me, I think it was tired of all the gloomy grey dome sky days of its former life in Michigan. I just brought it indoors last week as we were getting a few cool nights.

The blooms start as tiny ball buds at the very end of the leaves.

This shot shows the progression how the ball buds grow into proper long buds, that then sprout into the actual blossoms.

The only problem is you must watch out for random hair that has decided a bloom is the perfect place to land! By the way,I want you to know that I try to take good care of my plants. For being such a good model, I gave my cactus a nice long drink of some Miracle Grow as a reward lol. A real win-win 🙂

This little bugger usually sits in among the leaves and seemed a bit put out and being taken out of the pot for the photos. He calmed down when I assured him he would be featured in his very own shot!
