Playing With(Out) Color

I really am enjoying trying to learn a new thing or two. I have to say at my advanced age it is not always as easy as it used to be, however I feel pretty good if I can even grasp a few little thing anymore!

I really enjoy this Colour/Black and White Community. Come on and join the fun, you know you want to!!

So I am SLOWLY learning the free editing software called Darktable. It is basically like a free version of Lightroon/Photoshop.

According to the community page, the Colour/ Black and White Community is a place for those who like to post both color and black and white versions of the same shot. It was started and curated by @daveks and is a lot of fun for me because I have always enjoyed monos as well as color shots.

Of course I spent more time than I should have fooling around learning how to put a different twist on doing these colour to mono pictures lol.

Darktable has been around for a long while. Also it is open source, so there is a lot to love. I still have GIMP but when shooting RAW, Darktable is a nice editor and the price cant be beat!

I like your idea of separating the two colors in one frame. It's kind of giving a new life and art in there. Thus, I haven't encountered an application called Darktable. I will definitely try that too.

Super sweet! I like comparing the two...this makes it dramatic and easier to do the side-by-side comparison, right on the same picture.

I shoot raw, but, actually now with not selling photos, is there really a need to use raw? Oh, the real point: can I only use Darktable for raw? It looks like it has some cool effects I might be interested in.

Thanks for showing it off.

Oh no, it does JPG as well. The problem with a lot of free editors (like GIMP) is they dont do RAW. Of course you are right, if not wanting to sell pics, just shoot JPG. But then again, why have a nice camera, just use the phone?

I do, but, no thanks. I really like the camera.

Oh my gosh, I'm so excited! I had not heard about this community.

I really love what you did with the shots in this post. I'm going to have to check out Darktable. I know what you mean. It's intimidating to learn new things, but as we get older it feels like more and more of a victory.

Yeah it is a handy community that I find myself posting to at least once a week or so. I have always enjoyed some monos.

I love that feeling of conquering something new!!

Those are really nice edits! I've never tried Darktable but I don't usually use RAW. I think the smartphone supports RAW images but I have not tried it out.

I should say it does JPG as well. I just find it easier to use than Gimp for some things.
