Switching Software On Sepia Saturday
Happy Sepia Saturday
Or at least what there is left of it. That is the problem with life: all too often work gets in the way of art! Pffft only if I were a rich man...
So since I got the Sony a7iv, I decided to shoot only RAW format. It gives you so much more flexibility in post. However, I refuse to pay a hefty monthly fee for Photoshop. I can use Gimp for many thing with JPEGS but it doesn't support RAW.
In order to use Gimp you basically have to save a JPEG, then import it into Gimp, then do your magic. It kind of defeats the whole purpose of shooting RAW in the first place!
I have been using Raw Therapee to edit my RAWs because it seems easiest to use. However, there isn't an easy way to do sepias that I could find. So I have had to start learning Darktable as well. Hey at least all three are free LOL.
So far I would say dark table does a good job of giving you total control over the tones and colors that end up making their way into your final photo!

I really like the first shot, the subject, and especially the tone of it. I was never a huge sepia fan, as you already know, but, it had more to do with getting the right subject for the best effect.
You seem to have a sixth sense about it.
I would say that Darktable is a worthwhile adventure.
Finding the right subject is foundational. One can obviously change any photo to sepia, but I prefer them to look authentic, like it was taken decades ago. That doesnt work well with a modern car in view lol.
