My Journey into Splinterlands

A couple months ago, after 3 plus years Hiveing on the chain, I finally decided to jump into Splinterlands. I received some SPS in my HE wallet and with all the growth and hype Splinterlands was experiencing I figured I would jump in and see if "better late than never" would apply. Besides I'm always looking for more ways to derive an income stream. :)

After buying the spell book I started playing a bit with the starter cards to see how things worked. Of course like most noobs I was getting hammered regularly. lol. I finally learned a little strategy and won enough to level up and earn 5 loot chests. After that I figured how to achieve the quests and earned a few loot chests that way.

Not knowing what I was doing I decided to spend some fiat and invest in a card. I purchased High Priest Darius for $50 and then sold him a few days later for $66. I thought, okay, that turned out well what else can I do. :)

Next I started exploring Peakmonsters and discovered I could buy sets of cards. I kept checking back and finally found a set of about a hundred that I could afford. I then went about combining cards and adding a few more to start making some rentals available.

After a few more buys and sells and nearing the halfway point of my 3rd season of renting, I now have about 40 cards I rent out. I have been managing the rentals a lot closer this season and after only averaging 60-70 DEC per day I am now over 100. Not sure if it is due to my management of the cards or whether the rental market is just more lucrative right now. :)

I'm looking forward to the end of the season to see how well I might do with the rentals. One thing I would like to be able to do is specify the duration of the rental. Maybe 24 hours, 3 day, 7day. I don't like stopping multi-day rentals early, but when the cards are renting for 50% or more it's hard to pass up on that extra rental revenue.

At any rate I think my main focus will be on rentals for the moment. Hopefully I will be able to add some more cards/packs when Chaos Legions drops. I will probably play enough to get the 5 loot chests and a couple quests. I can't see myself being a dedicated player though and with the recent rule changes for low tier loot chests I may not even play that much. Time will tell. :)

I am very curious about the whole play-to-earn concept and would like to know more about it and possibly try it out in the near future, this will be helpful for sure. :)

Yeah, definitely a few different ways to go about earning. I'm also involved with Hashkings, Dcrops and Risingstar. Got my fingers in a lot of pies. :)

Where would you recommend to start, as the thing with the cards and lending was a little confusing to me. Maybe you know of any good step-by-step guide or maybe there are more straightforward games or more lucrative :D ?

I've found most of the play-to-earn games have an aspect of pay-to-earn in them also, so you will have to be willing to part with some fiat or crypto to get started and have a chance to earn.

Here is a link to Splinterlands main site. You should be able to login with your Hive acct. There is a lot of info on how the game works there. It will cost $10 to get a summoners spell book to start playing with some low level cards and get your butt kicked (part of the process). lol.

Info on Hashkings. No card packs available to purchase right now, only secondary market (https://nftm.art/buy/city).

This one I think you can start playing for free. :)

No card packs available to purchase right now, only available on internal and secondary markets (https://nftm.art/buy/city).

By no means is this a comprehensive list and I am far from an expert on blockchain gaming. Discord is a good place for info but I could only find an invite for splinterlands, https://discord.gg/gmws8Yr. Anyway I hope this helps get you started and good luck!

Wow, that's a really comprehensive guide, for me to begin scratching the surface of blockchain gaming, I think I will try one or a couple of the above-mentioned ones on the weekend and see how it feels, but being paid for playing sounds like a childhood dream coming true lol although it's not so simple haha.Thank you so much for the guidance :)

You are welcome! Like most things in crypto whatever you think you know there is always more or things have changed. Reading posts about the games and research is your best option. :)
